Job Description
At Genpact, we work at the intersection of deep domain expertise and operational excellence to help global banks strengthen their payment controls and combat financial crime. As the industry transitions to ISO 20022, MX messages are becoming the backbone of wire payment processing and fraud detection. We are looking for a subject-matter expert who understands MX data content from a business and operational lens—not a technologist—to support fraud strategy and rule design.
Inviting applications for the role of MX Payments Business Analyst – Fraud, we are seeking an experienced payments professional with strong hands-on exposure to ISO 20022 MX wire messages. You will partner closely with Fraud Operations, Financial Crime, and Compliance teams to identify critical MX data elements used to detect, investigate, and prevent wire payment fraud.
Location: Toronto (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
-
Act as a subject-matter expert on ISO 20022 MX wire payment messages (e.g., pacs.008, pacs.009, pain.001) with a strong focus on business meaning and data content.
-
Advise Fraud and Financial Crime teams on which MX fields and attributes are critical for fraud detection, monitoring, and rule creation.
-
Translate fraud risk typologies (e.g., mule activity, sanctions evasion, beneficiary fraud) into actionable data requirements using MX message content.
-
Support the design and enhancement of fraud rules by identifying mandatory, optional, and conditional MX fields relevant to wire payments.
-
Provide operational insights into wire payment lifecycle, exception handling, investigations, and repair processes within an MX-enabled environment.
-
Analyze MX message samples to assess data completeness, quality, and usability for fraud monitoring and alerting.
-
Partner with Fraud Strategy, AML, and Compliance stakeholders to ensure MX data usage aligns with regulatory expectations and internal risk policies.
-
Document MX field definitions, business interpretations, and fraud relevance in a clear, business-consumable manner.
-
Support migration or coexistence initiatives from MT to MX from a fraud and operations perspective (business impacts, data gaps, control changes).
-
Participate in workshops and working groups to explain MX message structures to non-technical fraud and operations users.

-
Deep understanding of MX data content, field usage, optionality, and payment party structures (ordering customer, beneficiary, intermediaries).
-
Proven experience supporting or advising fraud detection, payment investigations, or financial crime teams from a business perspective.
-
Strong knowledge of end-to-end wire payment processes, including initiation, screening, exception handling, and investigations.

Ability to communicate complex MX concepts in clear, non-technical language to fraud and business stakeholders.
