Position Title: Heavy Duty Mechanics - Fly-In-Fly-Out
Salary Range: $60/hr + OT (works out to $70/hr for a 12 hour day)
About the Client and Role
We are seeking an experienced Off-Road Heavy Duty Mechanic to support the Maintenance Department at a state-of-the-art mine facility located in Nunavut. This is a fly-in/fly-out role requiring both day and night shifts, on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation. Camp accommodations and meals are provided. The ideal candidate will have experience working with off-road construction equipment, including a fleet primarily consisting of CAT loaders, graders, rock trucks, excavators, skid steers, and similar equipment. Cold-climate and rotational work experience is preferred. This is a contract position with a strong possibility of transitioning to a permanent role.
We are looking for those individuals with a strong work ethic and a good employment track-record. This role provides technical support and coaching to assist the department and the company to strive to achieve their goals of "ZERO HARM".
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Troubleshoot and repair of heavy duty and medium duty mining equipment such as dozers, loaders, excavators, graders, forklifts, skid steers, telehandlers, etc., by CAT, Sandvik, Tamrock and many others
- The disassembly/overhaul of engines or engine components, transmissions, drive systems components and other assemblies
- The diagnosis of equipment problems; identifying and replacing worn or broken parts as required, and making all necessary adjustments and alignments
- Preventative maintenance
- Keeping the shop clean
- Other duties as required
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Red Seal or Journeyman Off-Road Heavy Equipment Technician / Heavy Duty Mechanic certification, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience repairing and servicing heavy equipment both in the shop and in the field
- Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship
- Ability to work alone and unsupervised in remote areas
- Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Motivated and hard working with a professional attitude
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications
- Language: speak, read and write English (knowledge of Inuktitut would be an asset)
- Previous experience working in harsh Arctic temperatures an asset
Previous mining experience is an asset
