This is a hands-on Foreman role for someone who knows how to run a job site and lead from the front. You’ll be working alongside your crew doing exterior carpentry and installation work while keeping the site organized, productive, and moving on schedule.
This role is approximately 50% hands-on site work and 50% supervision, scheduling, coordination, and administrative responsibilities.
You’re responsible for directing crews, training newer team members, coordinating daily work plans, and making sure the job is done right the first time. Clear communication with your crew, other trades, and management is critical. You’ll also handle basic site administration, safety checks, and daily problem solving as issues come up. To succeed in this role, you need solid leadership skills and real experience in building envelope and restoration work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively manages every project from inception to completion, overseeing all aspects of job site operations, regardless of project size.
- Collaborates closely with the Project Manager or coordinator to guarantee seamless execution of all project milestones.
- Proficiently interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications, and effectively conveys this information to the team.
- Contributes to the estimation of materials and labor costs essential for project planning.
- Ensures adherence to building codes and safety regulations.
- Collaborates effectively within their team and across teams as the situation demands.
- Diplomatically communicates with clients in a professional manner when the need arises.
- Assumes a leadership role in maintaining high standards of quality control and safety on site.
- When required, prepared to assume all carpentry duties, including but not limited to window installation, framing, addressing decay concerns, caulking, insulation placement, installation of interior and exterior trim, and sheathing and papering.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in carpentry, building envelope restoration, exterior construction, or a related trade.
- 1+ years of experience leading crews as a Foreman, Lead Hand, Site Supervisor, or similar construction leadership role.
- Strong understanding of exterior building systems, restoration practices, construction sequencing, and quality control.
- Proven ability to lead by example and work alongside your crew while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with homeowners, consultants, project managers, trade partners, and crew members.
- Demonstrated ability to plan daily work activities, coordinate resources, and keep projects moving forward.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience with project management software is considered an asset.
- Red Seal Carpenter certification is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
