Director of Infrastructure Operations - Permanent - 19221
About the Opportunity
Our client is hiring a Director of Infrastructure Operations to lead the people, practices, and platforms behind our cloud and product infrastructure. This is a newly shaped role created to bring dedicated leadership, management, and accountability (LMA) to our growing Cloud Infrastructure team.
You will be accountable for the reliability, scalability, security, and cost-efficiency of the cloud platforms that power our SaaS products and the financial institutions we serve. You'll lead a team spanning Cloud Infrastructure Architecture, Engineers, and Administrators, partnering closely with Product Engineering, IT, Security and Compliance, and Product Operations to ensure our infrastructure scales with the business.
Reporting to the CIO, you will align infrastructure execution to enterprise technology strategy and the CIO’s roadmap, while owning the team, the operating rhythm, and day-to-day delivery.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Leadership, Management & Accountability (LMA)
Provide direct people leadership for the Cloud Infrastructure team (Architect, Engineers, and Administrators), owning hiring, coaching, performance, development, and team health
Set clear expectations, priorities, and accountabilities through a structured operating cadence (1:1s, team rituals, quarterly goals)
Align with the CIO on enterprise technology strategy, translating direction into executable team plans and delivery outcomes
Partner with the Cloud Infrastructure Architect to operationalize architectural direction across the team
Foster a culture of ownership, automation-first thinking, and engineering excellence
Champion intent-based leadership, growing autonomy, decision-making, and technical depth within the team
Infrastructure Strategy & Operating Model
Translate the CIO’s enterprise technology strategy into an infrastructure operations roadmap with clear outcomes and milestones
Define and execute the infrastructure operations strategy in alignment with SaaS growth
Establish governance, standards, and repeatable processes for change and release management
Drive maturity in SRE practices, observability, capacity planning, and reliability engineering
Champion cross-functional alignment to enable scalable, secure delivery
Own the team’s documentation discipline, including knowledge base standards, runbooks, and training material aligned with ITIL practices
Cloud Platform Operations
Own the operation of our Azure-native cloud platform (and adjacent cloud services), including availability, performance, and cost
Lead infrastructure change management and continuous reliability improvements
Drive infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation as the default way of working
Maintain and evolve deployment patterns, environment standards, and platform guardrails
Oversee monitoring, alerting, and proactive infrastructure health management
Product Infrastructure & SDLC Enablement
Own the CI/CD pipelines and product delivery infrastructure that support the SDLC
Partner with Development, QA, and Product Operations to remove SDLC bottlenecks and accelerate safe delivery
Drive automation across build, deploy, and environment provisioning
Ensure product infrastructure meets performance and scalability requirements
Client Environment Management
Oversee client environment setup, provisioning, and lifecycle management for new and existing customers
Lead infrastructure changes tied to client onboarding, expansion, and contractual commitments
Ensure client environments meet agreed-upon performance, availability, and security standards
Security, Compliance & Risk
Ensure infrastructure aligns with external compliance controls and audit requirements
Embed secure-by-design, least-privilege, and identity-driven practices across the platform
Partner with the Head of Cybersecurity and Compliance on risk management, vulnerability remediation, and incident response
Support client due diligence, RFP responses, and security assessments related to infrastructure
Financial & Vendor Management
Own the Cloud Infrastructure budget, including cloud spend optimization, licensing, and reserved capacity strategies
Manage key vendor relationships, contracts, and renewals
Ensure technology investments are cost-effective, scalable, and aligned to business outcomes
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
8-12+ years of infrastructure, cloud, or DevOps experience, including 3–5+ years in direct people leadership of engineering teams
Proven track record leading SRE, platform, or cloud infrastructure teams in a multi-tenant SaaS or regulated environment
Experience leading mixed-discipline teams (architects, engineers, administrators, implementation leads)
Experience translating executive/CIO strategy into team execution and measurable outcomes
Deep working knowledge of Azure-native services; credible technical leader able to engage and challenge architectural decisions without being the deepest engineer in the room
Strong fluency in IaC (Terraform), observability tooling, and CI/CD pipeline ownership for product delivery
Track record building or maturing CI/CD and developer enablement practices
Experience with client environment lifecycle management in a SaaS context
Strong architectural fluency across networking, identity, security, and high availability, enough to challenge and guide your team’s decisions
Experience operating within SOC 1/2 Type 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks
FinOps / cloud cost ownership and vendor negotiation experience
Executive presence and the ability to influence across CIO, Engineering, Security, and client-facing stakeholders
