How will you contribute?
The Senior Editor (French) is one of two Senior Editors who support the work of the Team Lead, Editing and Publications and are accountable for supervising the editing of the proceedings of the standing, joint and special committees of the Senate, and any other committee work that is assigned. On a rotating basis, the Senior Editor (French) shares the responsibility of the editing and preparation of the Debates of the Senate for publication with the Team Lead, Editing and Publications and the other Senior Editor, including the production of headings, managing the daily tree, checking language joins and giving final approval to send for translation; and participates in the day-to-day management of the Section. The other Senior Editor works in English.
The successful incumbent also edits transcripts of the Debates of the Senate and committee proceedings, applying in-house stylistic and usage changes, verifying references and quotations, making blues corrections, reviewing bound volumes of the Debates of the Senate, coordinating with other members of the Debates and Publications team, assisting with staff training and performing other administrative functions as required.

The general public to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position in the Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate.

Prerequisites
- Successful completion of a university degree, or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience directly related to the position;
- Minimum five (5) years of experience supervising and mentoring staff;
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in the preparation, editing, and production of parliamentary documents (such as Hansard) or other related documents;
- Minimum five (5) years of experience collaborating with parliamentary partners;
- Superior knowledge of editing and proofreading techniques and their application in the parliamentary context; of rules and usage governing language, style, grammar, syntax and spelling;
- Experience in providing expert and professional advice to stakeholders on editorial choices, standards and interpretations;
- Experience in the application of formatting and styles for high quality publications;
- Knowledge of parliamentary practice, including rules, regulations and legislation;
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholder groups;
- Ability to edit in an XML application is an asset.
