Position Overview:
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving new business growth within our Solid Waste division through proactive, field-based sales efforts. This role focuses heavily on outside sales, relationship building, and developing new customer opportunities across commercial, industrial, and municipal markets. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, results-driven, and comfortable working independently in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the solid waste and recycling market
- Conduct regular in-person sales calls, site visits, and client meetings within an assigned territory.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, including facility managers, operations leaders, and municipal contacts.
- Understand client waste streams and operational needs to recommend appropriate solid waste, recycling, and environmental solutions.
- Prepare and deliver sales proposals, pricing, and service agreements in collaboration with internal teams.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and accurately track activity, leads, and opportunities in CRM systems.
- Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with operations, customer service, and account management teams to ensure smooth onboarding and long-term customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of outside sales or business development experience, preferably in solid waste, recycling, environmental services, or a related industry.
- Proven ability to generate new business and close deals through face-to-face sales efforts.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a field-based role.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within assigned territory.
- Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of solid waste collection, disposal, recycling, or environmental compliance.
- Experience selling service-based solutions in B2B environments.
- Familiarity with municipal or industrial waste contracts.
