Full job description

The Lieutenant Governor is the personal representative in the province of the Queen in Canada. As such, the position is not only the Chief Executive Officer of the government but is also the embodiment of the Crown in British Columbia.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Government House itself are multi-dimensional, supporting several distinct lines of business including constitutional and international protocol matters, ceremonial and hospitality events, and the management and maintenance of Government House as a National Historic Site.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is managed and maintained by staff and others, who coordinate constitutional, ceremonial, protocol, diplomatic, administrative, and operational activities at Government House and other locations. Special events vary in scope and significance, and average about 100 occasions per year.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Services Manager, the Casual Hospitality Staff (Dishwasher, Server & Maintenance) is responsible for providing guests with exceptional service at Government House events.

SCHEDULE

As and when required, based on Government House event schedule
Hourly rate to commensurate with experience

SERVER RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide professional and courteous food and beverage service
Prepare event spaces, including table settings and room setup
Take guest orders and serve meals, including accompaniments
Maintain dining ambiance with attention to guest needs
Clear and reset tables, refill beverages, and monitor guest satisfaction
Collaborate with kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth service
Follow all sanitation and safety standards

DISHWASHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Clean and sanitize dishes, glassware, cookware, and kitchen equipment
Operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently
Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dish areas
Inspect and rewash items as needed to meet standards
Manage waste and remove garbage throughout shifts
Keep floors clean and dry at all times
Assist with basic kitchen and event support tasks

MAINTENANCE / CUSTODIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Clean and maintain indoor and outdoor areas, including washrooms and public spaces
Perform floor care (sweeping, vacuuming, polishing, refinishing as required)
Empty waste and recycling bins
Dust, clean windows, fixtures, and surfaces
Assist with event setup and custodial support during events
Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing lightbulbs
Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely in accordance with guidelines

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual tasks

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Previous experience in hospitality, food service, or maintenance is an asset
Serving It Right certification (or ability to obtain) required for service duties
WHMIS training is an asset
Must be 19 years of age or older
Must successfully complete a criminal record check

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $22.00-$27.00 per hour
