About AirMetal

AirMetal Robotics is a Canadian defense-tech company building the next generation of unmanned aerial systems, autonomous robotics, and related technologies for defense, law enforcement, first responder, security, and industrial customers. We develop novel UAV concepts that push the boundaries of what unmanned systems can do — and we move fast. We are a small, technical team that values engineering depth, ownership, and the ability to go from idea to hardware quickly.

The Role

AirMetal is looking for a hands-on PCB Design Engineer to own electronics designs end to end — from a written design spec all the way to a working, validated board with firmware running on it. You'll take a specification document and carry it through schematic capture, layout, fabrication, assembly, bring-up, and basic firmware. This is a chance to work across the full hardware design cycle on real products, with a clear path from contract to a permanent role for the right person.

We're open to both experienced contractors and strong interns. If you're early in your career but can demonstrate that you can drive a board from concept to bring-up, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Work On

Translate design specification documents into complete electronics designs
Capture schematics and select components against requirements, cost, and availability
Lay out PCBs and prepare fabrication and assembly files
Coordinate fabrication and assembly, then bring up and debug the boards in the lab
Write board bring-up and peripheral driver firmware, plus basic test firmware to validate hardware
Document designs and produce the artifacts needed to move a board toward production

Core Requirements

Demonstrated ability to take a design from spec through to a finished, working board
Schematic capture and PCB layout experience (KiCad, Altium, or equivalent)
Solid grounding in low-voltage, low-speed digital communication (I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, etc.)
Comfortable bringing up hardware and writing peripheral drivers and bring-up firmware (C/C++ on a microcontroller)
Lab skills: scope, logic analyzer, multimeter, soldering, and methodical debugging
Able to work on-site in Kanata, Ontario

Nice to Have

Power electronics design experience
High-speed digital design (signal integrity, controlled impedance, DDR/Ethernet, etc.)
RF design experience
Familiarity with design-for-manufacturing and working with fab/assembly houses
Experience reading datasheets and reference designs to make component decisions independently
