Job Overview
We are seeking a Part-Time Store & Café Assistant to join our team. This role is essential in supporting the daily operations of the store, café, and guest experience by providing warm, attentive customer service, maintaining product presentation, preparing and serving food and beverages, and ensuring a welcoming, clean environment. The successful candidate will also assist guests during check-in and throughout their stay while supporting the operational and administrative functions of the business.
This position helps carry forward the store's mission of STAY. EAT. SHOP. EXPERIENCE. while representing the charm, hospitality, and community spirit our space is known for.
Key Responsibilities: Retail & Customer Service
- Welcome customers and provide a friendly, attentive experience
- Assist with product questions and recommendations
- Process sales using the point-of-sale system
- Restock shelves and rotate inventory using FIFO methods
- Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing retail displays
- Monitor and refill pantry, gift, and grocery items
Café Operations
- Prepare and serve beverages including coffee, tea, and specialty drinks
- Assist with light food preparation, including pastries, sandwiches, tea trays, and small bites
- Plate and present food items with attention to quality and presentation
- Buss and clean tables, counters, and prep areas
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards
Experience & Events Support
(Tea Parties, Seasonal Launches, Workshops & Special Events)
- Assist with event setup, table settings, and staging
- Support tea party, café, and event reservations
- Help prepare and plate food items for events
- Provide service support during events
- Reset and clean spaces following events
Cleanliness & Organization
- Complete daily cleaning checklists
- Maintain café, retail, and washroom cleanliness
- Assist with dishes, sweeping, wiping, and general housekeeping tasks
- Promptly restock cutlery, supplies, and takeaway items
- Help maintain an organized and welcoming environment for guests
Inventory & Back-End Support
- Receive, inspect, and unpack deliveries
- Track low-stock items and communicate inventory needs
- Label products and rotate pastries and food items properly
- Organize stockrooms and storage areas
- Assist with inventory counts and stock organization
- Ensure products are properly merchandised and stored
Administrative & Operational Support
In addition to customer-facing responsibilities, this role plays an important part in supporting the administrative and operational functions of the business. The successful candidate will assist with inventory management, stock tracking, receiving and processing deliveries, product organization, and maintaining accurate inventory records.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with inventory tracking and stock management systems
- Monitoring inventory levels and identifying items requiring reorder
- Maintaining accurate product records and organization
- Supporting receiving procedures and vendor deliveries
- Assisting with administrative tasks and operational documentation
- Helping coordinate daily operational activities across the store, café, guest accommodations, and events
- Supporting merchandising initiatives and seasonal product transitions
- Contributing to efficient workflows and overall business operations

Skills & Experience
(Preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate)
- Barista or café experience
- Retail, hospitality, or customer service experience
- POS and cash-handling experience
- Convenience store or specialty retail experience
- Inventory management or stock control experience
- Administrative support experience
- Food Handler Certification and Smart Serve Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Must be 19 years of age or older
Availability
Weekends required and weekday evenings required
- Primarily weekday evening shifts: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Some daytime weekend shifts required
- Approximately 20 hours per week
- Additional availability during holidays, special events, and peak seasons is an asset
- Must be available to continue employment past September and throughout the fall season. This position is not intended as a summer-only role.
- Students returning to school in September are welcome to apply, provided they can maintain the required evening and weekend availability.
