About Found Spaces
We're a Hamilton-based property management company that manages residential properties on behalf of owners across Hamilton and the surrounding region. We run on systems and clear standards, and we care about doing the work right.
We're small enough that every seat matters and big enough that the work is real.
The role
The Accounting Lead owns the day-to-day financial accuracy of Found Spaces. You'll work closely with the Director of Operations, support a small internal team, and be a reliable point of contact for owners and tenants on financial matters.
This is a hands-on accounting seat. You're not just reviewing work -- you're doing it, making sure it's clean, and flagging anything that's off. You'll also contribute to improving how we do things over time.
The role covers:
- Financial accuracy and compliance across all entities. Audit-ready at all times.
- Trust accounting and client funds - tenant deposits, rent receipts, owner funds, and provincial trust compliance. This is a zero-tolerance area.
- Owner statements, leadership reporting, and cash flow tracking so leadership always has a clear picture.
- Accounts payable and receivable - vendor payments, owner payouts, payroll for staff and VAs, tenant receivables, and flagging delinquency risks before they become problems.
- Budgeting and basic financial controls - building and monitoring budgets, catching variances early.
- Systems ownership - QuickBooks, Buildium, accounting integrations, chart of accounts, and accounting SOPs.
- Supporting and coordinating with a bookkeeper and rent/customer service coordinator.
- Identifying financial or compliance risks early and bringing them forward with context.
- Working with property management on rent and arrears, leasing on deposits and move-ins, and leadership on reporting.
You'll also be a point of contact for owners and tenants on financial questions. The seat is more outward-facing than a typical accounting role, so clear communication and a helpful manner matter.
Who you are
You're a solid accountant who does clean work and takes ownership of your area. You may be coming from a transactional accounting role and ready for more scope, or from a similar accounting lead position at a smaller company.
Specifically:
- 4+ years of accounting or finance experience. Some exposure to owning a function or supporting a team is an asset.
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is an asset, not a requirement.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks. Buildium experience is a bonus.
- Comfortable with Google Workspace (Sheets in particular), ClickUp, and similar modern tools.
- Open to AI tools and automation. We use Apps Script automations and AI workflow tools. Someone who sees technology as useful rather than something to avoid will fit well here.
- Detail-oriented by nature - you catch things, not because you were told to look, but because you notice.
- Good with people. Owners and tenants bring real money questions to this seat. Clear, professional, and genuinely helpful communication is part of the job.
What we offer
- $65,000–$75,000 base salary, based on experience
- A real accounting seat with clear ownership and scope
- Direct collaboration with the Director of Operations and founder
- Modern tech stack - QuickBooks, Buildium, ClickUp, Apps Script, AI workflow tools
- Hybrid arrangement available after the first 90 days, with in-person presence for team and leadership days
- A team that holds itself to a high standard and communicates directly
First 90 days
The first 90 days are in-person in Hamilton. That time is about learning the systems, building trust with the team, and getting a solid handle on how the business works financially. After that, we work flexibly around the actual demands of the role.
How to apply
Send your resume and a short note about why this seat interests you to [email protected]. Tell us what drew you to the role and what you'd want to get a handle on in the first few months.
We respond to every application that includes both -- not just resumes. The note matters.
Applications are reviewed as they arrive. We're targeting a July start with some training overlap.
One more thing: include the answer to 17 + 26 somewhere in your note. No explanation needed.
