THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Senior Specialist, Communications is a strategic role responsible for leading the development and execution of integrated communications strategies that advance ECVO’s mission, strategic priorities, and sector impact. This position provides leadership across internal and external communications, ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging that strengthens organizational alignment, stakeholder engagement, and brand presence.
Working collaboratively across teams, the Senior Specialist Communications partners closely with program areas – such as the Learning & Development team – to communicate clear and compelling communications to drive awareness, participation and impact for programs and initiatives. This role also leads internal communications approaches that support employee engagement and organizational cohesion.
As a member of the Shared Services team, the Senior Specialist Communications provides communications expertise, guidance, and leadership to staff, members and others contributing to ECVO’s shared service delivery model.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications Strategy & Content – 60%
The Senior Specialist Communications leads the development and delivery of integrated communications strategies, ensuring clear, consistent messaging that strengthens organizational alignment, engagement, and external impact.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of ECVO’s annual communications strategies, including integrated plans, content calendars, and KPI’s (key performance indicators) aligned with organizational priorities.
- Lead the creation, curation, and delivery of communications across multiple channels (internal and external), ensuring messaging is consistent, strategic, and aligned with brand and organizational objectives. Delivery channels may include:
- Social media
- Website
- Newsletters
- Events
- Other internal/external platforms
- Develop and implement internal communications approaches that strengthen staff engagement, organizational alignment and awareness of key initiatives.
- Lead the writing, development, design and production of high-impact communications materials, including annual reports, campaigns and storytelling content that communicate ECVO’s impact and priorities.
- Synthesize organizational data and outcomes into compelling stories that communicate ECVO’s impact and strategic priorities.
- Identify and translate emerging issues, risks and opportunities into proactive communications planning.
- Monitor communications trends, tools, and best practices (including digital and AI) to continuously evolve strategies and approaches.
- Identify opportunities to promote ECVO programs, initiatives and the broader nonprofit sector, expanding reach and audience engagement.
- Support media relations and issues management through development of key messages, media materials and coordinated responses.
- Provide organizational leadership in communications, including advising staff on messaging, internal communications and brand alignment.
Digital Communications & Platforms – 20%
The Senior Specialist Communications oversees ECVO’s digital communications ecosystem and platforms, leveraging data and user insights to optimize performance, engagement and service delivery.
- Lead ECVO’s digital communications strategy, including website experience, content, performance metrics, and optimization.
- Oversee ECVO’s digital platforms (e.g. Website(s), LMS, CRM, event platforms and others), ensuring integration, usability and alignment with communications goals.
- Manage relationships with external vendors (web developers, designers, platform providers) to support continuous improvement and performance.
- Use analytics and user insights to inform decision-making, improve engagement, and measure effectiveness of communications channels.
Shared Services – 10%
Work alongside the Shared Services team to deliver shared services in the communications stream.
- Providing communications consultation and service delivery for member organizations through ECVO’s shared services model.
- Actively participating, as required, in Shared Services initiatives, meetings and evaluation.
- Working in partnership with the shared services team to deliver streamlines consultation and service delivery.
Leadership and Organizational Supports – 10%
The Senior Specialist Communications is a supervisory position and provides leadership by contributing to a collaborative, high-performing organization through people management and coaching.
- Providing leadership, guidance and direction for direct reports ensuring organizational goals are met.
- Fostering a positive, productive, team-oriented work environment.
- Completing performance reviews and providing ongoing, timely feedback for individual development.
- Other activities as assigned.

ECVO is looking for an individual with a high level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability! This role will require the ability to work independently and in a team environment, with the capability of balancing both.
To be successful in this role, our candidate will have a poste secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field (although an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered). Experience (5 years or more) in a similar senor communications role and 2 years in a supervisory role will be essential for success in this position. Skills in graphic design and visual storytelling (using tools such as Canva, InDesign and others), experience in digital systems (such as CMS, CRM platforms, LMS, and email marketing tools), and intermediate skills using Office 365 (Teams and SharePoint) will be required.

Salary: $76,321 - $82,190 annually, commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week
