Job Summary

Storys Building is looking for Prep Cooks who are responsible for the day-to-day preparation of high-quality ingredients to support banquet, catering, and event services. Our Prep Cooks are detail-oriented, organized, and take pride in preparing food to the highest standards. Cleanliness, consistency, and teamwork are essential, as our Prep Cooks play a vital role in ensuring our culinary team delivers exceptional dining experiences for every event.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform delegated tasks from the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and/or General Manager.
Prepare ingredients daily according to production schedules and venue standards.
Prepare vegetables, fruits, meats, seafood, sauces, stocks, and other ingredients while following safe food handling procedures at all times.
Prepare food from scratch according to recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards established by the culinary leadership team.
Assist with food preparation for weddings, corporate events, private functions, banquets, and catering services.
Maintain prep lists and complete assigned station duties efficiently.
Keep workstations clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout each shift.
Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures to maximize product freshness and minimize waste.
Assist with inventory control, product rotation, and restocking supplies as needed.
Clean food preparation areas, kitchen equipment, and utensils while adhering to sanitation, food safety, and hygiene standards.
Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance concerns to the Chef on duty.
Assist with receiving, inspecting, and properly storing deliveries.
Safely operate standard kitchen equipment.
Complete opening, closing, and cleaning duties as assigned.
Follow all Health & Safety policies, WHMIS requirements, and food safety regulations.
Foster a respectful, collaborative, and team-oriented work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1–2 years of experience as a Prep Cook or Kitchen Assistant in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, catering company, banquet facility, or event venue.
Experience preparing food for banquets, catering, or large-scale events is considered an asset.
Culinary diploma is an asset.
Basic understanding of professional cooking techniques and knife skills.
Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling procedures.
Ability to follow recipes, production sheets, and preparation schedules accurately.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Positive attitude with a strong willingness to learn and grow.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
