As a Personal Lines Underwriting Assistant, you will help drive the growth and profitability of SPG Canada. Working alongside a team of experienced individuals, managers, and executives, you will support our underwriters and deliver exceptional service to our broker partners. You will have the opportunity to build meaningful broker relationships while developing your skills and growing your career in the insurance industry.
This is an in-office position based in our Langley, BC offices, with the potential to transition to a hybrid arrangement upon successful completion of the probationary period.
This position will:
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with underwriters and brokers through discussions and correspondence
- Process and issue documents as instructed by underwriters and managers
- Meet service standard and turnaround time with respect to the issuance of documents
- Support Managers and Underwriters with general administrative tasks
- Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
- Work closely with underwriters to assist with the underwriting functions
- Document observations made during pre-reviews of files to assist underwriters
- Complete renewal pre-reviews and may approve renewal referrals within authority
- Perform underwriting support functions at the direction of underwriters including bind confirmations, and certificates with a high degree of accuracy
- Preparing Certificates of Insurance
- Edit & formatting of documents using a variety of software & programs
- Review documents for accuracy
- Maintain and innovate administrative workflow procedures to increase efficiency
- Communicate internally with other departments via e-mail and telephone
- Communicate externally with brokers as required
- Build and maintain electronic and any applicable hard copy records following established guidelines and processes.
You’re a good fit if you have:
- 1-2 years of experience with transferrable skills in Customer service, administration, and data entry
- Existing insurance is considered a strong asset
- A valid broker license (level 1 or 2) is considered a strong asset
- Can type a minimum of 40 words per minute
- Good communication skills
- Are proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word
- Willing to take insurance courses for continued growth and industry knowledge
- Are familiar with the basic legal structures in Canada

The expected salary range for this position is from $40,000 – $45,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
