With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a permanent position for a Data Science Specialist within the Communications, Research & Policy department.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Reporting to and under the direction of the Data Science Lead, the successful candidate will contribute to the Research and Analytics department by delivering student achievement, well-being and business analytics products using data from multiple systems and sources.

Transform and structure data into analysis ‑ ready formats to support analytics, reporting, and research activities

Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL ‑ based data models, views, and datasets from relational data systems in collaboration with ICT services

Support reproducible analytics workflows using SQL and R

Assist with data preparation for internal research, recurring reporting, and external reporting requirements

Maintain clear documentation of data sources, transformations, and assumptions to support reuse and auditability

Contribute to continuous improvement of analytics processes and data assets across the organization
REQUIREMENTS:

Post secondary (Bachelor) in data science, statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or a related field

Minimum two (2) years experience working with SQL and relational database systems combined with relevant operational analytics

Experience with data visualization tools or packages (e.g., PowerBI, ggplot2, R Shiny and Quarto)

Experience preparing clean, well ‑ structured datasets for downstream analysis or reporting

Superior oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by success in engaging, understanding and supporting data users, including proven presentation skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets

High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data validation, analysis, and reporting

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and evolving data requirements
