Job Title: Program Coordinator

Organization: The Edmonton Horticultural Society
Reports to: Program Director

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, and delivery of EHS programs and volunteer-supported initiatives. Working closely with the Program Director, Board Members, Volunteers, and Community Partners, the Program Coordinator ensures that EHS programming is well organized, effectively delivered, and aligned with the organization's mission and vision.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery and Capacity Building (80%)

Deliver Society programs and events in alignment with the mission and goals of EHS.
Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs throughout the year, including schedules, venues, supplies, communications, registration, and volunteer assignments.
Collaborate with the Program Director, Board Members, volunteers, and community partners to ensure programs are well organized, effectively promoted, and successfully delivered.
Coordinate and support volunteers in all aspects of program delivery.
Research and identify educational content, presenters, partners, locations, and resources to support and enhance programming.
Anticipate program needs, arrange required resources, and make adjustments to support ongoing program success.
Ensure programs provide a positive, welcoming, educational, and engaging experience for participants.
Represent EHS in the community and respond to requests related to Society programming and educational opportunities.

New Program Development (5%)

Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and new opportunities in gardening education and community programming.
Research and recommend improvements to existing EHS programs.
Identify opportunities to strengthen community engagement and support the EHS mission.
Assist in compiling ideas for new programs, partnerships, and educational offerings.
Explore new technologies and methods for delivering information and engaging participants.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners to support future programming.

Community Development and Partnerships (5%)

Build positive working relationships with volunteers, community organizations, government agencies, and partner groups.
Work collaboratively with community partners to deliver programs.
Help identify and pursue new partnership opportunities.
Support and maintain existing EHS partnerships.
Represent EHS professionally within the community.

Marketing and Communications (5%)

Support and enhance awareness of EHS programs through clear, consistent, and engaging communications.
Initiate and maintain regular communication with members, volunteers, and the public.
Create, contribute to, and distribute content for newsletters and social media and website posts.
Recommend marketing and communication strategies to promote EHS programming.
Work closely with the Webmaster to ensure program materials are current and timely.
Research and maintain content for ongoing communications.
Respond to inquiries related to EHS programs and activities.

Program Monitoring and Evaluation (4%)

Monitor program effectiveness and make adjustments to improve future programming.
Maintain accurate records and assemble statistical and financial information.
Prepare regular reports for the Board outlining program activities, outcomes, successes, and challenges.
Gather and evaluate feedback from participants, volunteers, and stakeholders.
Analyze program results and collaborate to recommend changes or improvements as needed.

Other Duties (1%)

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be:

Able to adapt to a variety of groups and situations to ensure program success.
Knowledgeable about gardening, plants, the gardening community, and related businesses.
Experienced in working with volunteers, the public, and community organizations.
A dynamic and engaging presenter with strong oral and written communication skills.
A strong team player with a positive work ethic.
Experienced in program development, coordination, and public presentation.
Comfortable using social media and digital communication tools.
Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

Working Conditions

Combination of office, outdoor, and community-based work
Occasional evenings and weekends for events, meetings and programs
Physical ability to participate in light horticultural activities (as needed)

Compensation & Hours

Wage: $25.00 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
Expected Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Hours may vary based on program and event schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends
