Position Title: QA Automation Specialist

Job Purpose:
Reporting to Manager, Information Technology, the Quality Assurance Automation Specialist is responsible to design, develop, and execute automated tests to ensure software quality and efficiency. The QA automation Specialist will create a repository of automated test suites for user software testing to ensure that new code changes do not negatively impact existing functionality. This repository will be maintained and updated regularly to cover new features and bug fixes retesting, providing a robust framework for continuous integration and delivery.
The QA Automation Specialist embeds automated testing into day‑to‑day delivery by integrating test execution into continuous integration and deployment practices, supporting early defect detection, and providing rapid, actionable results to the Agile team.

Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts and test suites that will evaluate software functionality
- Integrate automated tests seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous feedback on code quality and early defect detection
- Conduct research on emerging test automation tools and recommend improvements
- Execute automated test scripts and document end results
- Take charge of implementing complex testing techniques to reduce the load on Agile teams
- Analyze test results, identifying bugs, and document issues
- Re-test system fixes for reported bugs and complete testing by performing regression testing
- Ensure software requirements are met and track quality assurance metrics
- Collaborate with test team, and project teams to plan the required automated test scripts and test suites
- Provide training and information support to peers, which may include hosting training sessions
- Review procedural processes and recommend changes to improve testing processes and practices
Key Capabilities:
- Technical and analytical skills to effectively ensure software quality
- Ability to identify test scenarios that are critical and repetitive and automate them, overseeing their execution and maintenance using tools such as Selenium WebDriver or Postman
- Strong understanding of both automated and manual testing methodologies
- Problem-solving skills to identify, document, and troubleshoot defects effectively
- Ability to work closely with project teams to understand requirements and provide feedback
- Manage own goals, time, and planning
- Leverages feedback for improvement
- Is passionate about technology, user experience, demonstrates inner self-starter, and is accepting of and open to learning new ideas outside scope or knowledge
- Compliance with privacy, security and confidentiality policies
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Post-Secondary education in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering or Business
- 5+ years experience working with automated test tools along with manual user testing
- Strong familiarity with Agile methodologies and quality assurance best practices
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar Agile task tracking, including defect tracking
- Strong organizational & time management skills
- Analytical thinking & problem-solving skills
- Attention to details
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with the health claims management industry is considered an asset
- Current Tester Certification is considered an asset
Context and Environment:
The QA Automation Specialist will be involved with working with the IT project teams in a collaborative setting to ensure software quality.
An employee in this role must be able to:
- Work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
- Work for extended periods at a computer
- Work occasional overtime hours to meet project deadlines
Internal Communications:
- Will work closely with the following teams
- Test team to create and prioritize automated test cases for existing products
- Project/product teams to create and prioritize automated test cases for new products
External Communications:
Will occasionally have external communication with Clients and Business Users to coordinate their access to our test system, to test their software changes and to provide them with test data.
