Food and Beverage Server
Servers are responsible for consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service to provide memorable dining experiences, exceeding our guests’ expectations. Servers oversee the food and beverage service within our restaurant (Veranda, Rosseau Grill, Pub), and event functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure that the dining room area is properly set, cleared, cleaned and re-set throughout the entire shift.
- Assist guest with booking restaurant reservations (through walk in, phone or email)
- Greet guests, present menus, inform of any specials, make recommendations and answer questions regarding food and beverage items.
- Thoroughly understanding each menu and being able to demonstrate with confidence and accuracy to guests.
- Assists patrons select food and beverages by suggesting courses, explaining the chef’s specialties, identifying appropriate beverage pairings, and answering food preparation questions.
- Stay up to date on specials, menu deviation, items that have ran out etc..
- Serve, clear, buss and re-set tables in a timely manner while efficiently using proper service etiquette.
- Accurately relay to kitchen and bar staff via the POS system in a timely and accurately manner
- Communicate efficiently and professionally and with the Food and Beverage production team and kitchen about orders, allergies, and guest requests
- Having a firm understanding of upselling and suggestive selling.
- Extensive knowledge of wine and liquor as well as any other beverages
- Can accurately demonstrate correct beverage service including table side bottle and glass wine pouring.
- Actively listen and respond positively to guests questions, concerns and requests, report any problems or concerns to Manager on Duty and/or Chef.
- Processing payments and operating point of sale system without error
- Complete opening, closing and side duties throughout your shift.
- Complete daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly cleaning assignments
- Other duties assigned by your manager or supervisor.
- Ensures that the guests’ needs are met through efficient execution of all event orders
- Responsible for setting up event rooms and ceremony spaces for our clients function according to the details provided.
- Be familiar with the menu, beverage and plating for the assigned function
- Serve, clear and re-set tables in a timely manner while efficiently using proper service etiquette.
- Communicating efficiently and professionally and with the Food and Beverage production team about orders, allergies, and guest requests
- Ensure guest satisfaction and report any problems or concerns to Manager on Duty and/or Chef.
- Complete opening, closing and side duties throughout your shift.
- Other duties assigned by your manager or supervisor.
- Demonstrate a complete understanding of the resorts policies, procedures and service standards.
- Ensure effective working relationships and clear communication with all colleagues and leaders
- Protects establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
- Strong time management skills, with a prompt and organized approach to your work

HEALTH & SAFETY
Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety and its regulations by:
- Performing workplace inspections
- Conducting information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, etc.)
- Conducting incident investigations
- Conducting employee training
- Correcting substandard acts or conditions
- Commending employee and supervisor health and safety performance
- Performing employee safety observations.
- Reviews Health and Safety Trends
- Responds to health and safety committee or worker representative recommendations
- Established a program to regularly communicate health and safety information
- Integrates health and safety into all aspects of the organization
- Records health and safety program reviews and changes
- Regularly encourages off-the-job health and safety activities for all workers
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 1 year serving experience in the food and beverage industry. Must be a minimum of 18 years old with a possession of a Smart Serve certificate. Knowledge of the POS operating system “Silverware” would be an advantage.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
It is imperative for our servers to have an excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
WORK ENVIRONMENTS
Working with the food and beverage department can be hectic and fast paced, applicants must be able to work under pressure while having a positive attitude. Servers must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends and holiday. Windermere House has both outdoor and indoor restaurants/ event spaces and each shift may vary where servers will be assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance
- Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
- Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
- Move over sloping, uneven or slippery surfaces
