Job Summary
WINTEC is seeking a Truck and Transport Technician experienced in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing highway trucks, trailers, and commercial fleet vehicles used in road construction operations. The ideal candidate has experience working with diesel engines, air brake systems, steering, suspension, drivetrains, electrical systems, and trailer components. This position requires strong troubleshooting abilities, preventative maintenance experience, and knowledge of Manitoba commercial vehicle safety standards. The successful candidate will work independently while contributing to a safe, efficient, and productive shop environment.
Duties
- Diagnose, inspect, service, and repair commercial trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles, including diesel engines, drivetrains, steering, suspension, brake, hydraulic, electrical, and auxiliary systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, and repairs to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Use computerized diagnostic equipment, testing tools, and technical manuals to accurately identify faults and determine repair requirements.
- Complete Manitoba Government Safety Inspections (MGSI), where certified, and ensure all repairs comply with provincial safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Test and road test vehicles, as required, to verify repairs and ensure safe operation.
- Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and repair documentation.
- Work independently and collaboratively to prioritize repairs while maintaining productivity in a fast-paced shop environment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following all company policies and Manitoba workplace safety regulations.
- Assist with mentoring apprentices and perform other shop duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Red Seal Truck and Transport Mechanic Certification, or registered Apprentice (Level 3 or higher) considered.
- Manitoba Government Safety Inspection (MGSI) Certification required, or willingness to obtain.
- Minimum 2 years of experience diagnosing and repairing commercial trucks and trailers.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, suspension, steering, drivetrains, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license required.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
- Safety-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs and performing manual labour.
