Reporting to the Operations Manager - the Electrical Engineer In Training will be accountable for executing projects through sound engineering expertise under the supervision of senior staff.
Specifically focusing on design, drafting and analysis of power systems, the successful candidate will be part of a team executing design projects and develop project management skills.
Sectors served by Magna IV Engineering include power utilities, oil and gas industry, bulk material handling, pulp and paper, industrial substations, generation facilities, renewables facilities, co-generation units, and others.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of the Electrical EIT include the application of engineering principles to successfully perform design tasks with guidance provided by the lead engineer.
Engineering & Design (~90% time commitment)

Understanding & application of design standards and codes such as Canadian Electrical Code C22.1 Part 1 and IEEE publications.

Power system modelling and studies using software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, EMTP, CDEGS, XGSLab. Studies include load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, motor starting, harmonic evaluation, grounding etc.

Perform design drafting tasks using AutoCAD to develop single line diagrams, general arrangements, control schematics, logic diagrams etc.

Develop protection relay settings and load settings into relays for testing.

Prepare technical schedules such as for cables, conduit, panels.

Prepare technical reports for review.

Ability to review, interpret, understand and query design drawings.

Demonstrate desire for professional and self development, willingness to learn and show initiative in researching technical information to provide input/feedback on design ideas.

Understand and apply Magna’s internal policies.

Follow instructions from lead engineers and other senior staff.
Project Support (~10% time commitment)

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word & Sharepoint.

Provide support to lead engineer on project administrative tasks.

Assist in identifying scope gaps between client requirements and Magna’s scope of work.

Coordinate, oversee and review of deliverables produced by designers and drafters.

Provide in-field support as required to the Technical Field Services department.

Attend factory visits to assist lead engineer in testing equipment prior to client delivery.

Perform document control through electronically and hardcopy filing, and managing incoming and outgoing transmittals.

Maintain strong communication and rapport with the clients and identify opportunities for new projects or scope expansions.

Assist in developing budget estimates and proposals.

Ensure safe work processes are followed with each job and a culture of safety is fostered.

Success Measurements

Successful completion of engineering tasks, including minimal errors when undergoing Quality Assurance checking of engineered work.

Management of hours spent on projects to meet budget and schedule requirements.

Steady development of technical competency in order to progress towards Professional Engineer status with local association.

A minimum 2+ years relevant experience.

A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (minimum).

Ability to perform electrical engineering design and studies competently and diligently.

Must have a valid Canadian drivers’ license and be able to travel to various client sites

Ability to travel to the US is considered an asset

Regular in person office attendance during typical office hours Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

The willingness to travel and work overtime, which include occasional weekends, evenings and statutory holidays.
