The Finance Services Team within AVP Planning & Performance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Manager, Finance Services.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Finance Services, the Manager, Finance Services provides leadership in delivering and promoting finance services across the University. The role requires strong financial expertise, strategic problem-solving, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex, high-volume, and often ambiguous environments with competing priorities and diverse stakeholder needs.
The Manager leads and develops a team of Finance Partners and Analysts, providing coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to support high-quality service delivery across budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial planning, and other finance-related activities. The role is responsible for developing team capabilities, supporting succession planning, and ensuring resources are effectively deployed to meet client needs.
Working closely with the Director, Associate Directors, and Finance Partner team, the Manager helps drive the effectiveness of Finance Services through workforce development, process improvement, stakeholder engagement. The position also partners with faculties, units, and other service providers across campus, leads strategic initiatives and subcommittees, and contributes to the continuous improvement of finance services, policies, and practices across the University.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Managerial

Lead, coach, and develop a team of finance professionals, providing direction, mentorship, performance feedback, and career development opportunities. Manage workforce planning and resource allocation, including recruitment, onboarding, attendance, workload distribution, client assignments, and succession planning.
- Oversee service delivery and operational effectiveness, ensuring priorities, workloads, and client support are aligned to organizational needs.
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative team culture that promotes accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and exceptional client service.

Develop and support training initiatives to enhance team capabilities, technical knowledge, and professional growth.
- Ensure compliance with finance policies, procedures, standards, and best practices, while promoting Finance Services initiatives across the organization. Establish and maintain effective reporting tools, processes, and performance measures to support team objectives and operational excellence.
Strategic Planning/Projects

Lead and support strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts by assessing finance policies, processes, programs, and service delivery models to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
- Drive change management and stakeholder engagement, building alignment and support for new initiatives, process improvements, and organizational priorities.
- Lead cross-functional projects and committees focused on operational excellence, professional development, standards, governance, and service model enhancements.
- Partner with Finance teams and stakeholders to streamline programs, develop supporting tools and training, and implement best practices across the organization.
- Monitor emerging trends, regulatory changes, and institutional priorities to proactively identify opportunities, address challenges, and inform decision-making.
- Provide strategic finance guidance and resolve complex issues, developing recommendations, standards, and solutions that balance diverse stakeholder needs.
Communication/Relationships

Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders across the University, serving as a trusted advisor and partner.
- Lead and support effective communication and stakeholder engagement, ensuring information is timely, accurate, and aligned with Finance Services and University objectives.
- Manage complex issues and sensitive situations with professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality, providing sound advice and facilitating positive outcomes.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, coaching, and continuous learning that enables high-performing teams and exceptional client service.
- Facilitate client consultation, feedback, and partnership opportunities to strengthen relationships and continuously improve service delivery.
Qualifications / Requirements:

Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) and related university degree.
- 7+ years of experience in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience managing and developing teams.
- Experience in a post-secondary or academic environment is considered an asset.
- Strong consulting and business partnering skills, including stakeholder engagement, negotiation, influencing, change management, coaching, and mentoring.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to manage complex situations, drive innovation, and build effective working relationships.
- Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to coach and develop others, exercise sound judgment, think strategically, and support organizational change.
