Solution Services is hiring a dependable and safety-focused Vac Truck Swamper to join our Fort Saskatchewan operations.
This is a hands-on field position supporting vacuum-truck and combo-vac operations at industrial and oil and gas facilities. The work includes industrial cleaning, tank and vessel cleaning which would include confined space cleaning, waste removal, fluid transfers, shutdowns, turnarounds, spill response, and general vacuum-service activities.
This position is suited to someone who works hard, takes direction well, understands industrial safety expectations, and wants the opportunity to develop into a qualified Vac Truck Operator.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
· Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
· Acceptable five-year driver’s abstract
· Minimum one year of oil and gas, industrial, construction, trucking, vacuum-service, or related field experience
· Valid Standard First Aid
· Valid H2S Alive
· Valid Common Safety Orientation, or CSO
· Valid Fall Protection
· Valid Confined Space Entry certification
· Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English for safety documentation, permits, radio communication, and work instructions
· Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor and industrial environments
· Ability to work variable schedules and travel to field locations when required
· Ability to meet company and client pre-employment and site-access requirements
Previous vac truck experience, and experience working inside operating industrial facilities are considered strong assets.
Responsibilities
The Vac Truck Swamper will be responsible for:
· Assisting the Vac Truck Operator with safe and efficient field operations
· Rigging in and rigging out vacuum hoses, pressure lines, fittings, valves, and related equipment
· Handling, positioning, connecting, and disconnecting hoses
· Monitoring hoses, equipment, work areas, and changing site conditions during operations
· Assisting with liquid, sludge, slurry, and solid-material removal
· Supporting tank, vessel, sump, piping, and industrial equipment cleaning
· Spotting and guiding the vacuum truck during positioning and movement
· Establishing and maintaining barricades, exclusion zones, and controlled work areas
· Participating in field-level hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, permitting, and client safety processes
· Following operator, supervisor, and client instructions
· Maintaining clean equipment, tools, hoses, and work areas
· Assisting with equipment inspections and identifying damaged or defective components
· Supporting waste loading, unloading, disposal, and fluid-transfer activities
· Completing basic paperwork and field documentation as directed
· Following company procedures, environmental requirements, and site-specific rules
· Supporting shutdown, turnaround, emergency-response, and scheduled maintenance projects as required
Physical and Work Requirements
This is an active field position. Candidates must be prepared to:
· Handle large industrial hoses and fittings
· Lift, pull, push, climb, bend, kneel, and work from standing positions for extended periods
· Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, muddy, dusty, or windy conditions
· Wear required personal protective equipment
· Work around industrial equipment and active process facilities
· Maintain awareness around moving vehicles, vacuum systems, pressure equipment, and changing site conditions
· Work effectively as part of a two-person truck crew and larger project team
Work Environment and Schedule
This position is based out of our Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta location and includes field work throughout the region and across Alberta.
Project requirements may include:
· Day or night shifts
· Extended shifts and overtime
· Weekend and statutory-holiday work
· Out-of-town travel
· Short-notice mobilizations
· Shutdown and turnaround schedules
· Outdoor and physically demanding work
· Physically demanding hose handling, climbing, bending, lifting, and equipment setup
· Work around industrial equipment, process facilities, and controlled work areas
Schedules will vary according to client and project requirements.
