Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk/Legal Assistant for our Owen Sound office, specializing in Wills to join our dynamic team of four lawyers and 12 staff. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support our estate planning practice by managing new and returning client intakes, preparing legal documents, review and signing appointments, client reporting, and ensuring smooth workflow processes. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills, legal drafting and proofreading abilities, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with the intake of new and returning clients by interviewing clients to gather necessary information for estate planning documents while demonstrating professional phone etiquette.
Organizing estate planning meetings with each responsible lawyer.
Preparation, review, and proofreading of draft wills, trusts, and related estate planning documents using meticulous attention to detail.
Manage electronic document management systems like LEAP, and organize physical files efficiently through accurate filing and data entry.
Support project management tasks by drafting correspondence, coordinating client return appointments, tracking deadlines, preparing signing documentation, and taking case files through to completion.

Qualifications

Proven experience in legal clerical or administrative roles within a law firm or related setting.
Strong proofreading skills with keen attention to detail in all written materials.
Familiarity with legal administration tools such as MicroSoft Office Suite, and LEAP is preferred.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a busy environment.
Ability to be self-directed, and follow direction from multiple lawyers to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of legal drafting standards related to wills and estate planning.
Proficiency in data entry, file management, and clerical procedures; previous experience with project management is advantageous.
Exceptional phone etiquette combined with professional communication skills.
