The Role
Based out of our Markham, Ontario, office, this is a unique, hybrid Programmer / Service Desk Analyst role designed for a technically strong developer who possesses front-line Service Desk experience or has a strong desire to actively support application support functions.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Front Line Support, you will split your responsibilities between:
- Application Support (Service Desk): Providing high-quality technical assistance for VPL WMS/TMS clients.
- Programming & Technical Development: Maintain front-end technologies and driving data-related troubleshooting.
This position is responsible for all aspects of servicing the VPL client base that require deep functional software knowledge and supply chain industry expertise. We are looking for a highly detail-oriented, proactive self-starter who can manage complex assignments, drive client satisfaction, and deliver comprehensive software consulting.
Key Responsibilities
Service Desk & Client Support
- Triage, monitor, investigate, resolve, and log application issues within the VPL Service Desk ecosystem.
- Provide front-line, high-touch technical support for proprietary VPL WMS/TMS software.
- Translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable communication for non-technical stakeholders.
- Align daily operations with internal escalation workflows and strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Maintain disciplined, meticulous documentation of incidents, troubleshooting workflows, and final resolutions.
- Participate in a mandatory 24/7 on-call rotation (including evenings, overnights, and weekends as scheduled).
Programming & Technical Responsibilities
· Support, maintain, and optimize front-end application components within the VPL platform.
- Conduct SQL-based troubleshooting, complex data analysis, and data validation tasks.
- Collaborate closely with internal development and engineering teams to diagnose and remediate deep-seated application bugs.
- Execute structured Quality Assurance (QA) and validation checks to confirm successful corrective actions.
- Actively contribute to internal technical documentation, system runbooks, and knowledge base expansions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory Technical Skills
Candidates must possess and be able to demonstrate professional experience in the following:
- SQL: Strong querying, data analysis, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Support: Direct front-line Service Desk or Application Support experience.
- Languages & Scripting: Python and Java (specifically HTML5-based / UI-focused implementations).
- Front-End Development: HTML5, CSS, and CSS scripting.
· Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (equivalent professional experience considered).
· Proven experience working with relational databases and diagnosing complex data anomalies.
- Familiarity with enterprise service desk ticketing systems and SLA-driven operational environments.
- Elite analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause determination skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail with an emphasis on strict documentation discipline.
- Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills.
- The agility to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have / Preferred Qualifications
- Core Java backend development experience.
- JavaScript proficiency.
- Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems.
- Familiarity with DB2 or other corporate RDBMS platforms.
- Exposure to EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) tools, mappings, and protocols.
- Prior domain exposure to 3PL, WMS, or TMS operational environments.
- Practical experience with ProvideX/PxPlus-based applications (highly valued asset).
- Background working within a commercial, product-driven software development environment.

Pay: $45,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
