We are seeking a candidate to join our Ottawa, Toronto or London team. Salary commensurate with experience. BTE offers flexible work hours, health care allowance and hourly rate of pay.
Key Responsibilities:
Intermediate to Senior level position includes developing project work, managing and conducting field investigations, preparation of reports/drawings and oversight of environmental construction inspection and post construction monitoring in support of environmental assessments (EA), road ecology, impact mitigation and ecological restoration design for urban land development and rural roadway projects. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Project development, proposal preparation, project management and client relations.
- Fish inventories, fish habitat mapping and offsetting fish habitat mitigation;
- Terrestrial ecology inventories and evaluation of species at risk (SAR);
- Road ecology planning and wildlife movement evaluations (Eco Passages);
- Cartographic resource mapping and decision making;
- Planting and ecological restoration design plans;
- Construction staging for environmentally sensitive locations;
- Prepare and secure permits with permitting agencies;
- Coordination with senior engineering staff, key stakeholders as required; and,
- Work-flow management and mentoring of junior staff.
Qualifications – Required:
- Post-graduate degree - aquatic sciences, terrestrial ecology or integrated biology with practical expertise in Geographic Information Systems (Arc Info or R);
- 7-10 years of field biology and report writing experience gained through managing project work;
- Advanced knowledge of Ontario plants, birds, fish and herpetofauna and the current federal and provincial legislative requirements that guide development;
- Ability to source, manage and undertake multiple simultaneous projects;
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work remotely in a team environment;
- Working knowledge of appropriate standard software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel); and,
- Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Qualifications – Preferred:
- Experience managing projects, proposals and people in a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment;
- Experience in marketing, sourcing, pricing and project development;
- MTO Certification as Fisheries Assessment Specialist or Fisheries Construction Specialist;
- Certification and experience in Electrofishing, Fish Identification, Ecological Land Classification, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, Arborist or demonstrated interest in birding and botany;
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, or ability to learn, to work closely with engineering staff;
- Experience in transportation planning with knowledge of technical requirements and standards of MTO, and experience with MCEA and CEAA environmental assessments;
- Ability to integrate the sciences fluvial geomorphology, hydraulics and hydrology sciences into aquatic habitat analysis; and,
- Bilingual.
Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
