Northplex Ltd. is a modular home builder serving customers across Western Canada. From our 150,000 sq. ft. climate-controlled facility in Barrhead, Alberta, we design and build modern, high-quality homes using efficient, production-based processes.
We are looking for an experienced Design & Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and design team, ensuring projects are accurate, code-compliant, and optimized for manufacturing.
Work Environment & Location (On-Site Role)
This position is based at our facility in Barrhead, Alberta and involves daily collaboration with production teams and on-floor operations.
- This is a fully in-person role
- Remote or hybrid work is not available
- Candidates must be able to reliably commute or relocate
This role is for a leader who wants ownership, visibility, and real impact on the production floor. It requires consistent on-site presence and direct engagement with operations.
If you prefer remote work or a purely office-based engineering role, this position is not the right fit.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and support the engineering and design team
- Build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing department
Engineering & Project Oversight
- Oversee projects from design through production
- Ensure drawings and specifications meet Alberta Building Code requirements
- Maintain strong documentation, revision control, and quality standards
- Continuously improve engineering processes and best practices
Production & Operational Support
- Work closely with production teams to resolve technical challenges
- Improve design efficiency to support workflow and reduce waste
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with sales, production, and leadership teams
- Ensure customer requirements are technically feasible and well executed
- Build strong relationships across departments
What We’re Looking For
- Strong leadership experience in engineering, construction, or manufacturing
- Ability to balance technical detail with practical, production-focused thinking
- Effective communicator who can work across teams and departments
- Organized, proactive, and solution-oriented
- Committed to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- P.Eng. designation is an asset
- 8–10+ years of relevant experience
- 2+ years in a leadership role
- Experience in residential, modular, or manufacturing environments preferred
- Knowledge of Alberta Building Code
Technical Experience
- AutoCAD
- CAD/CAM software
- HSBCAD
- Autodesk Revit
- Engineering documentation systems
