Athabasca County is currently accepting applications for a term, full-time IT Coordinator to join our Corporate Services team. Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Services, the IT Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily IT operations of Athabasca County. This role includes managing IT projects and initiatives, administering and monitoring the managed services contract, and ensuring accurate documentation of IT processes and asset records.
The ideal candidate will be a reliable and motivated individual with previous experience overseeing managed services contracts and on-site day-to-day IT operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate IT projects and initiatives, including project plans, timelines, and budget tracking.
- Administer and monitor the managed services IT provider contract; coordinate service delivery, track issues, and follow up on escalations to ensure services meet County needs.
- Gather and document business requirements from stakeholders; define scope, priorities, dependencies, and impacts for IT work and projects.
- Maintain accurate and current IT documentation for systems, services, software, configurations, vendor contacts, and procedures.
- Maintain IT asset and lifecycle records including inventory, assignment and location, warranty status, replacement planning inputs.
- Coordinate routine software and firmware updates on County IT equipment, including maintenance planning, scheduling, and coordination with the MSP as applicable.
- Evaluate hardware and software requirements and provide purchasing recommendations in accordance with procurement policy and approved budgets.
- Log incidents, escalations, and changes with summary, impact, timeline, owner, actions taken, resolution, and follow-up or prevention steps.
- Coordinate planned maintenance and communicate changes that impact users.
- Maintain current records for vendor contacts, licensing and renewals calendar, system inventory, and standard procedures, including recovery steps where applicable.
- Stay current on relevant technologies and standards; provide recommendations aligned to County priorities, security practices, and approved plans.
- Participate in IT-related meetings and provide input on risks, service improvements, priorities, and planned changes.
- Support the MSP by reproducing issues and completing on-site troubleshooting for endpoints and peripherals (and local connectivity checks) when issues cannot be resolved remotely.
- Set up and configure end-user equipment in County facilities.
- Assist employees with Microsoft 365 and other standard applications; provide guidance and user training as needed.
- Assist with the repair, maintenance, and upgrading of computer hardware and software in alignment with County standards and the MSP model.
- Maintain a problems-and-solutions log and knowledge base to support consistent service and faster resolution, within the MSP’s portal.
- Participate in application and software changes by supporting testing and user acceptance, documenting issues, providing usability feedback, and supporting rollout communications and training.
- Keep employees informed of relevant IT service information — known issues, workarounds, and planned maintenance notices.
- Perform other duties as required.
Key Qualifications & Skills:
- Completion of a college or post-secondary program in computer science, computer programming, network administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of combined IT coordination, IT support, or project coordination experience.
- Demonstrated experience (1+ year) acting as the primary day-to-day liaison with an external managed services provider, including ticket tracking, and escalation management.
- Experience with IT assets and lifecycle management, including documentation and inventory tools.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals in a managed services context.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between County facilities as required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interact well with, and respond to inquiries from employees, management, and Council members.
The salary range for this position is $72,813.20 -$91,073.96 per annum.
