Riverpark Properties Ltd. has been providing third-party property and asset management services for owners of commercial real estate since 2003. Riverpark is based in Calgary, Alberta and currently manages a portfolio of 2,300,000 square feet of office, industrial and retail properties in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Airdrie.
We are currently looking for a Controller to join our accounting team. In this role you will be joining a team of accounting professionals that are responsible for the financial management of approximately 50 office, industrial and retail properties. Working together, our accounting team provides accurate and timely information for both our internal teams and our clients.
Position Summary:
This position will interact with coworkers of all levels throughout the company, while providing leadership and direction to their own team of Accountants. The Controller will oversee and be responsible for timely and quality financial reporting for the portfolio. We are looking for someone with strong technical commercial real estate accounting knowledge and great communication skills. Proficiency with Office and Excel is a must-have.
Core Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Oversee and coordinate with property accountants / clerks to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, accurately and on time
- Conduct regular check-ins with team members to assess performance, offer guidance and mentor them to support their growth. Provide constructive feedback to help employees improve and excel in their roles
- Provide leadership and direction to team members ensuring they have the support and resources they need. Manage approvals for key decisions, tasks, and processes as necessary, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures
Financial / Cash Management / Compliance
- Accounts receivable processing of tenant payments including pre-authorized payments
- Accounts payable processing for cheque runs
- Working with the bank to open / close accounts as required
- RECA Trust Audit / Documentation
- Onboarding and Offboarding of properties – financially as well as software updates
Financial Reporting and Accounting
- Review of monthly financial reporting including tax payments and filings
- Review of monthly client distribution calculations as well as any cash flow projections/reforecasting where required
- Review of annual tenant CAM recoveries, budgets and working papers as required
Innovation and Systems
- Help to define and amend system processes as required
- Maintain the accounting / property management software
- End-user training in system processes
