Family Gatherings Coordinator

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Family Gatherings Coordinator. Reporting to the Family Engagement Supervisor, the Family Gatherings Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of large-scale family engagement initiatives, including the Nurturing Connections Métis Family Gathering and other province-wide events. This position plays a key role in creating culturally grounded, safe, and meaningful gathering spaces for Métis children and families. The successful candidate will support all aspects of event coordination including logistics, partnerships, and on-site execution, ensuring gatherings reflect Métis culture, values, and community priorities. The Family Gatherings Coordinator will be a highly organized, collaborative, and adaptable professional who brings strong event coordination skills and a passion for supporting Métis families and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of the Nurturing Connections Métis Family Gathering and other large-scale family events.
- Develop detailed event plans including timelines, logistics, budgets, and resource requirements.
- Coordinate venues, travel, accommodations, catering, materials, and on-site logistics.
- Coordinate participation of facilitators, speakers, and cultural contributors.
- Ensure all events are culturally grounded, inclusive, and aligned with Métis values and community needs.
- Support the development and delivery of gathering programming, including workshops, cultural activities, and family engagement opportunities.
- Assist in developing event materials, including agendas, packages, and post-event summaries.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and event documentation.
- Assist with reporting requirements related to program outcomes and funding.
- Ensure a high-quality participant experience from registration through post-event follow-up.
- Work closely with team leadership and other team members to align planning and share best practices.
- Ensure safety, accessibility, and quality standards are upheld at all times.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to support event promotion, registration, and participant communications.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure programming aligns with departmental goals and priorities.
- Build and maintain relationships with Métis families, community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partners.
- Represent the Children and Family Services department at community events and gatherings, as needed.
- Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Participate in departmental planning and strategic initiatives.
- Other duties as required.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong program coordination and facilitation skills, with the ability to design, deliver, and support family engagement initiatives.
- Experience developing and coordinating programs, resources, or initiatives from concept through implementation and evaluation.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to contribute to clear program documentation, reports, and resource materials.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, contributing ideas, supporting co-workers, and sharing responsibility for program delivery.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external community partners.

- Culturally responsive, compassionate, and respectful approach when working with Métis families, communities, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Early Learning, Human or Social Services, or related field is preferred. Equivalent experiences will be considered.
- Two to three years’ experience in a similar role is an asset.
- Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.
- Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
- Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to meet program needs
- Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required
