Job Description:
The Mechanical Designer will create, develop, and test products such as machines, tools, and sensors for the material handling product lines. They also collect data on prototype performance and supervise the manufacturing process for their designs.

Complete designs and drawings (use 3D and/or 2D design software) for the manufacture of mechanical systems.

Set-up, organize and maintain Solidworks PDM drawings data for use by the engineering and manufacturing team.

Generate manuals to accompany product, when required.

Comprehend the project objectives, create, and manage design standards and direct the design to this end.

Be responsible for establishing and maintaining CAD data standards, structures, processes, and supporting documents for the engineering team.

Independently develop workable design concepts.

Check for mistakes which cause rework and mistakes.

Document changes to projects or jobs and ensure proper documentation occurs.

Make recommendations on products, designs, and materials for cost improvement.

Control design and build targets related to customer requirements.

Attend project kick off meetings, site visits, department meetings and project debrief meetings.

Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure design is executed correctly and within timelines.

Proactively provide technical support for shop production.
-
Collaborate with the installation team and respond to questions and/or problems before and during the installation stage of projects.

Build and validate prototypes.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, employees are also expected to complete other duties as required. Dependent on business needs, percent of work may change as needed. All employees are expected to have familiarized themselves with the Health & Safety and Human Resources manuals, including their responsibilities as outlined in each.
Education:
-
Degree or Diploma in mechanical engineering with exposure to mechanical, industrial, and control integration.

Solidworks certification an asset.
-
P.Eng. designation an asset.
-
Maintain valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
-
Maintain valid passport with ability to travel in North America as needed, less than 10%.
-
5+ years of related experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Designer, or related position.

Exceptional skills using Solidworks PDM Professional in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Proven experience working in Lean manufacturing environment, methods, and process improvement programs.

Proficient software experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project).

Salary Range: $54,355 - $90,592
