The SCHC, located in Southeast Calgary, is a family-focused community health centre offering a wide range of services including urgent care, public health, specialty clinics and a Community Addiction and Mental Health Clinic. The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is open seven days/week and provides care for non-life-threatening health conditions to a diverse population of all ages, as part of an integrated community service delivery model. As the Urgent Mental Health Clinician you would be working as part of this fast-paced multi-disciplinary team within the Urgent Care providing a continuum of services to patients and their families. Reporting to the unit manager, the Urgent Mental Health Clinician provides consultation, assessment, therapeutic interventions including single-session therapy, resources, and discharge plans to those patients across the lifespan who present with urgent mental health and addiction concerns. The UMH clinician will also work within a stream of service offering scheduled single sessions for clients across the lifespan, though primarily focused on an adult population. Shifts occur on weekdays and weekends and hours are 12:00-20:15. You will apply your training and experience in CBT, DBT, Solution Focused or other therapeutic modalities and appropriately utilize these modalities dependent on patient presentation. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with urgent psychiatry and the UCC team.
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent experience in the last 5 years providing both mental health assessments and single session therapy to individuals with addiction and mental health concerns. Certified training with a minimum of 2 years applied experience in the last five years in individual therapy modalities, specifically requiring two of the following: DBT, CBT, MI or SFT. Advanced crisis management skills including suicide risk assessments, intervention and treatment, de-escalation skills and the ability to triage the client’s wellness BLS
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree preferred Strong knowledge of medical co-morbidities, psychotropic medications, and DSM 5 with experience providing provisional diagnosis. Experience with complex addiction and mental health presentations with multiple barriers to wellness. Experience within an acute, urgent care, or crisis setting preferred. Knowledge of community resources and the referral pathways. NVCI.
