Health Care Attendant / Personal Support Worker (HCA / PSW)
Locations: Gardens of Peterborough Retirement Residence; Orchard View Gardens Retirement Residence; Centennial Place (Millbrook, ON); Moira Place (Tweed, ON); Station Place (Havelock, ON)
Status: Full-Time / Part-Time
Shifts: Various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Pay Disclosure:

Retirement Residences: $20.82 – $21.71
Long-Term Care Homes: $28.38 – $30.18 per hour

Starting rate, wage progression, and premiums are determined by the applicable collective agreement.

Position Summary

As a Health Care Attendant / Personal Support Worker (HCA / PSW), you will provide hands-on, compassionate care to support the physical, emotional, and social needs of our residents.

Working as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, you will assist with activities of daily living and support each resident’s dignity, independence, and overall well-being in alignment with established Care Plans and AON’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Care

Assist residents with personal care, including bathing, dressing, mobility, feeding, and other activities of daily living (ADLs)
Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and palliative support to residents and families
Support restorative care programs and encourage resident participation and independence

Care Delivery & Documentation

Deliver care in accordance with individualized Care Plans, policies, and procedures
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care and observations
Communicate changes in resident condition to registered staff

Communication & Teamwork

Collaborate effectively with team members, residents, and families
Foster respectful, professional relationships across the care team
Respond to resident and family concerns promptly and professionally

Health, Safety & Compliance

Follow infection prevention and control (IPAC), workplace safety, and fire safety protocols
Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful environment
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation

Qualifications

Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) or Health Care Aide (HCA) certificate, or equivalent (e.g., first year of a recognized nursing program)
Experience in retirement, long-term care, or geriatric settings preferred
Knowledge of responsive behaviour programs (e.g., GPA, U-First!) considered an asset
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Compassionate, resident-focused approach with a commitment to quality care
