Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Journeyman CNC Machinist to join a custom plastics machining and fabrication environment. This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable working independently, can program from drawings, sketches, or sample parts, and is interested in helping modernize and iprove shop workflows.
The work involves a mix of CNC machining, plastic material handling, custom fabrication, and practical problem-solving. Experience machining plastics is a strong asset. Candidates without direct plastics experience should have the ability and motivation to learn independently, as this position requires someone who can adapt quickly and work with limited formal training.
Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment for custom plastic components.
- Work from blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, CAD files, and sample parts.
- Program and edit G-code for custom jobs.
- Use current shop software, including VCarve Pro and PowerStation, or independently learn these systems as required.
- Operate CNC table routers, end mills, CNC lathes, and related machining equipment.
- Machine plastic sheet, rod, tube, and other plastic materials to customer specifications.
- Use supporting shop equipment such as table saws, routers, and other woodworking-style fabrication tools where appropriate.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
- Identify tooling, fixturing, setup, and process improvements to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
- Assist with routine machine maintenance, troubleshooting, tooling changes, and general equipment care.
- Support safe material handling, including forklift operation where required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Provide practical leadership in the shop by helping improve workflows, standards, and machining practices.
Requirements
- Journeyman machinist certification.
- Strong CNC machining experience, including setup, programming, and operation.
- Ability to program independently from drawings, sketches, CAD files, or sample parts.
- Experience with G-code programming and editing.
- Experience with CNC routers, CNC mills/end mills, and CNC lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and machining requirements.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Comfortable working independently in a custom, low-volume, high-variety production environment.
- Willingness and ability to learn unfamiliar software, materials, and processes independently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.
- Practical understanding of shop safety, material handling, and equipment care.
Strong Assets
- Experience machining plastics, including sheet, rod, tube, UHMW, nylon, acetal, PTFE, and other industrial plastics.
- Experience with VCarve Pro, PowerStation, Haas controls, or similar CNC platforms.
- Experience using table saws, routers, and woodworking-style equipment in a production or fabrication environment.
- Forklift experience.
- Ability to help improve shop systems, reduce bottlenecks, and support modernization of machining workflows.
- Interest in adapting to new technology, improved tooling, and more efficient production methods.

Pay: $21.64-$38.21 per hour
