We are seeking a skilled Assistant Manager, Food Services to join our Hamilton Health Sciences Volunteer Association Food Services team on a CONTRACT Full Time (with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and stat holidays as needed) at the McMaster Children's Hospital.
We are looking for positive, energetic leader who is passionate about providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced hospital café environment with strong customer service skills.
What you'll do

Provide day-to-day supervision and leadership to food service staff.

Work alongside staff and provide shift coverage as required, including evenings/night shifts, to maintain service levels.

Coordinate and support the training and onboarding of new food service staff.

Promote teamwork and uphold HHSVA values, ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures.

Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary café environment at all times.

Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing coverage across all shifts.

Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels, ensuring products are well stocked and properly merchandised.

Ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met, including posting required information and completing regular inspections.

Oversee team efficiency and accuracy in order fulfillment, while ensuring compliance with health and safety, cleaning standards, and food safety guidelines.

Handle customer interactions in a professional and positive manner, resolving issues promptly to ensure an exceptional customer experience.

Manage cash handling processes, including preparing daily cash reports and deposits, and promptly flagging any discrepancies to the Manager, Food Services.
What you bring

Strong leadership and coaching skills leading by example.

Excellent customer service skills including strong verbal communication skills, exhibit good manners, proper personal hygiene, and brings a positive enthusiastic attitude.

The ability to perform under pressure, stand for long periods of time, lift up to 25 lbs. and have good time management skills.

The ability to move and respond quickly to various requests and commands, and communicate clearly and effectively with customers and co-workers.

Food Handler’s Certification or willing to take the course paid by the VA.

Conditions of employment

Health Clearance from Employee Health through Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), inclusive of any booster shots, unless a Hamilton Health Sciences exemption is provided.

The Hamilton Health Sciences Volunteer Association is a non-profit organization that supports patient care at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) through the operation of cafes, cafeterias, parking facilities, gift shops and retail services across the organization. To clarify, we are not Hamilton Health Sciences, but rather a separate organization that works within the hospitals to generate profits to donate back to HHS to enhance patient care.
