AI Engineering Co-op at OmaScan (Sept 2026)
What is OmaScan?
OmaScan is a healthtech startup dedicated to helping seniors and people with accessibility challenges live longer, safer, more independent lives at home.
We are doing that by reinventing the home assessment workflow. Right now, getting a home assessed for modifications is slow and manual. Clinicians spend hours measuring, documenting, and chasing paperwork, while clients wait months on waitlists.
We are building an AI assistant that comes with the assessor and automates the paperwork, so assessors can spend more time on what matters: the client.
OmaScan is a very early stage company. You'll build real features that ship to real users, and you'll help shape the product.
The Role
You'll work alongside our engineers on the AI assistant: the feature that takes an assessment from raw, messy input all the way to the reports and follow ups that go out to clients, vendors, and clinicians.
Depending on your strengths, you could be:
- Building pipelines that take messy input (dictation, photos, measurements) and turn it into clean, structured data.
- Working on the AI report generation that fills clinics' existing templates, plus the quick summaries clinicians send to clients and vendors.
- Helping build the agentic post-assessment follow up workflows.
- Writing the evaluation and testing that proves the AI output is actually accurate, not just good in a demo.
You'll sit in on customer calls, see how an early company actually gets built, and have a real say in what we make. There may also be the chance to travel to pilot sites and conferences.
Who this is for
You should apply if:
- You build things on your own, outside of class. Side projects, hackathons, things you made because you wanted them to exist.
- You've played with LLMs and actually shipped something with them.
- You can pick up a new stack fast and figure things out without someone holding your hand.
- You want to work hard, learn a huge amount quickly, and have ownership most co-ops never get.
- You care about building something that genuinely helps people.
You do not need years of experience or a perfect resume. We care about what you can build and how fast you learn.
Technical expectations
Our stack: TypeScript, NestJS, AWS, React.
You should be comfortable wit:
- Writing and shipping real code, front end or back end
- Building with LLMs (prompting, structured outputs, basic retrieval)
- Picking up new tools and frameworks on your own
Bonus:
- Multimodal AI (vision, audio, transcription)
- Agentic and tool using systems (MCP or similar)
- A GitHub, portfolio, or projects you can show us
- 3D data and ThreeJS
The honest truth
We've raised funding and have real pilots across Canada, but we're early and there's a lot to build. This is a co-op where you'll do real work that matters, learn faster than you would almost anywhere else, and work directly with the founders and engineering team. For the right person, this can turn into a full time role. If you want a quiet co-op where you coast and clock out, this isn't it.
