Reporting to the Manager, Site Health, Safety, Environment & Radiation (HSER), the Senior Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Coordinator will lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of a robust site HSE System for the Rook I Project, ensuring alignment with NexGen’s values, corporate standards, and regulatory obligations. As a key member of the site HSE team, this role provides leadership across health and safety programs, emergency preparedness and response, and environmental and compliance initiatives to support safe and responsible site operations.
The Senior HSE Coordinator partners closely with the Saskatoon-based HSER, Environment/Compliance, and Integrated Management System (IMS) teams, as well as cross-functional site stakeholders (including Project Development, Exploration, Site Services and Construction), to ensure site activities align with permits, regulatory requirements, and corporate standards. The Senior HSE Coordinator mentors Health & Safety Coordinators, coaches supervisors and contractors, and promotes a strong safety culture while driving effective risk control, incident prevention, and continuous performance improvement across site operations.
Location
This position will be based at the Rook I site on a 2 week in/2 week out schedule. NexGen’s Rook I Project Site is located approximately 155km north of La Loche, Saskatchewan.
Accommodations and meals are provided while on rotation. Travel logistics to/from site are coordinated by NexGen.

Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the site Health & Safety Management System, ensuring alignment with NexGen’s values, corporate standards, and applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the site Emergency Response Team to support emergency preparedness and response activities, including participation in drills and real incidents, and ensure Health & Safety program requirements are effectively implemented as the project advances.
- Embed risk-based planning and the hierarchy of controls into work execution; coordinate annual H&S objectives, plans, and KPIs.
- Support the Environmental and Compliance teams, as required, to ensure site activities adhere to regulatory requirements, permit conditions, and NexGen policies and standards.
- Plan and conduct inspections, verifications, and internal audits; ensure corrective actions are defined, assigned, and closed on time.
- Manage H&S data capture, dashboards, and reports to leadership (leading/lagging indicators, trends, lessons learned).
- Oversee and participate in incident notification, investigation, root cause analysis, and the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence and share learnings across the site.
- Support regulatory and corporate reporting requirements related to HSE performance and compliance, including coordination of required documentation and follow-up actions.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to HSE Coordinators and the site H&S team, coordinating the work of H&S contractors and consultants and supporting the development of team competencies in inspections, audits, incident investigations, and HSE training.
- Work collaboratively with Exploration, Site Services, Project Development, Licensing, IMS, and vendors to integrate H&S into plans, procedures, and execution.

Diploma/degree in Occupational Health & Safety (or related field).
- 8–10+ years of HSE experience in construction or industrial environments, including leadership or mentoring experience.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, environmental compliance requirements, and emergency management and response procedures.
- Strong knowledge of HSE management systems, incident investigation and root cause analysis, and regulatory compliance, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and online HSE reporting tools (i.e. Cority, Sharepoint etc.).
- Demonstrated experience managing, coordinating, and providing oversight of contractors and subcontractors on site.
- CRSP/CHSC (or equivalent) is an asset.
