Job Description
We are recruiting for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Piping Designers in Ottawa, ON and/or St. John’s, NL.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop 3D product models for ship piping and ancillary systems for new ship construction and refit projects.
- Interpret technical, Detail Designs, and construction drawings related to systems design.
- Develop specifications, sketches, requirements, and technical drawings;
- Develop 3D models in Ship Constructor, Aveva or other software as required;
- Review of production outputs, ex: spool packages, to ensure correctness of the 3D model and associated deliverables are compliant with specifications and standards;
- Support technical discussions for project reviews;
- Support and assist in the development of less experienced team members; and,
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on qualifications and years of experience of applicant.
Qualifications:
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree; OR the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience and a minimum of 3 years related experience.
- Modelling and drafting experience in the marine environment producing functional and detailed piping models and drawings.
- Production Drawings including piping isometrics, spools and pipe support design, modelling, and detailing.
- Pipe routing using Industry and Project standards.
- Engineering and Design drawings including 2D layouts, Spec Review, and Requirements definitions.
- AutoCad, Ship Constructor.
- Aveva E3D and/or PDMs would be an asset.
- Client Interactions/Liaison.
- Experience working within a shipyard would be an asset.
- Experience and understanding of Cats and Specs would be an asset.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work within a team environment to support project completion.
- Thorough understanding of quality and continuous improvement.
- Decision-making skills and problem-solving considered an asset.
- Eligibility for enrollment in the Controlled Goods Program.
- Eligible for Canadian Security Status (Secret or above).
