Reporting to the Director, Manufacturing Operations, your initial priority will be to lead the implementation of Tempeff's ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System, partnering with leaders and employees across the organization to establish a sustainable, best-in-class safety management system.
Following implementation, the role will evolve into a broader operational engineering position focused on improving manufacturing performance through engineering solutions, equipment reliability, maintenance systems, Lean manufacturing, capital projects, and operational excellence, while continuing to provide strategic leadership for the company's Health & Safety Management System.
You will partner with production, maintenance, engineering, quality, and leadership to identify opportunities, solve operational challenges, and deliver sustainable improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – PHASE ONE – ISO 45001 IMPLEMENTATION & HEALTH & SAFETY LEADERSHIP
The initial focus of this position will be the successful implementation and integration of Tempeff's Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
Responsibilities include: - Lead the implementation, certification, and continual improvement of the ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System. - Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, operational controls, and supporting documentation. - Coordinate the company's Health & Safety Management System and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. - Facilitate workplace inspections, hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and risk assessments. - Lead incident and near-miss investigations using structured root cause analysis methodologies and ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified. - Coordinate employee safety orientation, training, competency development, and awareness initiatives. - Ensure compliance with Manitoba occupational health and safety legislation and applicable regulatory requirements. - Support emergency preparedness planning, emergency response procedures, and evacuation planning. - Develop safety performance metrics, dashboards, and management reports. - Provide technical guidance and support to supervisors, managers, and the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS & ENGINEERING
Following successful implementation of ISO 45001, the role will transition toward a broader operational engineering focus while continuing to oversee and improve the Health & Safety Management System.
Responsibilities include: - Analyze manufacturing processes, workflows, and production systems to improve safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency. - Lead Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives. - Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime. – Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of recurring equipment and process issues. - Assist with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and asset management initiatives. - Develop standard work, operating procedures, visual management systems, and process documentation. - Coordinate operational improvement initiatives and capital projects from concept through implementation. - Collaborate with equipment suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders during equipment installation, commissioning, and process improvements. - Evaluate plant layout, material flow, ergonomics, and workstation design to improve operational performance and reduce risk. - Support Management of Change (MOC) activities related to equipment, processes, and facility modifications. - Develop and monitor operational, maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement KPIs. - Analyze operational data and present recommendations that support business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or another related engineering discipline.
· Engineering Technology graduates with relevant manufacturing experience will also be considered.
· EIT designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba is considered a strong asset.
QUALIFICATIONS – EXPERIENCE
· Experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, maintenance, process improvement, project engineering, or occupational health and safety is preferred.
· Candidates with a combination of relevant education, co-operative education, internships, and professional experience are encouraged to apply.
· Experience implementing or supporting ISO 45001, Made Safe, or other management systems is considered a strong asset.
· Experience leading cross-functional improvement initiatives is considered an asset.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS (ASSETS)
· CRSP, CHSC, NCSO, CSP, or equivalent Health & Safety certification.
· Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Yellow Belt, Green Belt, or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
· Project Management training or certification.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
· Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and industrial equipment.
· Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
· Experience with preventive maintenance, TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
· Excellent communication, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship-building abilities.
· Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
· Experience with CAD, SolidWorks, or similar engineering software is considered an asset.
· Experience within HVAC manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, or industrial manufacturing environments is preferred.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within the first 12–18 months, you will: - Successfully implement and integrate Tempeff's ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System. - Strengthen Tempeff's proactive safety culture through employee engagement and leadership. - Establish meaningful operational and safety KPIs that support data-driven decision-making. - Improve equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness through engineering and continuous improvement initiatives. - Identify and implement manufacturing improvements that increase productivity, reduce waste, and improve operational performance. - Become a trusted technical advisor to manufacturing leadership, supporting engineering, maintenance, operational excellence, and workplace safety.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Primarily based within a manufacturing environment with regular interaction on the production floor.
· Occasional lifting, walking, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required.
· Occasional travel may be required for training, supplier visits, equipment acceptance, or industry conferences.
