About Quantify Environmental
Quantify Environmental is a Canadian company on a mission to make our country's manufacturers more competitive, efficient, and sustainable. We install permanent Internet of Things (IoT) sensors across factory floors - on water mains, electrical systems, natural gas, and process equipment - and turn that real-time data into low-cost, high-ROI savings our clients can actually see.
We're the team that walks the plant floor with the sanitation crew and presents to the C-suite the same week. We work with some of Canada's biggest names in food & beverage, manufacturing, and beyond - and after several profitable years, we're growing fast and getting busier.
We're small, sharp, and at the tip of the spear on technology and AI. This is a real opportunity to join a proven startup early, take ownership, and grow with us. If you like solving real-world problems with your hands, learning constantly, and seeing the direct impact of your work - keep reading.
The Role
We're hiring a dedicated Field Technician to own the hardware side of our business: integrating sensors, building small enclosures, installing systems on client sites, and keeping everything running. You'll be the person who makes sure our deployments are clean, reliable, and built to last - freeing our senior leadership to focus on growing the company and solving problems quickly.
You'll work hands-on across client manufacturing sites (mostly in Ontario, within about an hour of Guelph), with occasional travel further afield. Most of your time will be in the field or in our Guelph shop, with the flexibility to work from home as needed.
This is a hands-on, build-it, fix-it role for someone early in their career who's ready to take on responsibility - with room to grow into senior, lead, or lateral positions as we scale.
What You'll Do
- Integrate, assemble, and configure IoT sensors and devices for industrial monitoring
- Build small enclosures housing power supplies, sensors, UPS units, and terminal blocks
- Install and commission hardware on client sites — wiring, mounting, and connecting low-voltage sensor systems
- Wire and troubleshoot 4–20 mA loops, pulse counters, and Modbus devices
- Configure connectivity — cellular/SIM, LoRaWAN, routers, and network settings
- Perform ongoing maintenance: battery changes, sensor replacements, calibration checks, and site verifications
- Take and document site photos, readings, and notes; keep accurate hardware logs
- Proactively identify and resolve issues, and suggest better ways to do our installs and maintenance
- Use modern AI tools (Claude Code, Codex, Claude) to work faster and smarter day to day
What You Bring (Required)
- A 2–3 year Ontario college diploma in Instrumentation & Control, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technician, or Mechatronics/Automation (or equivalent)
- 1–3 years of relevant hands-on experience preferred; strong recent graduates with relevant experience and personal hands-on projects will be considered
- Demonstrated hands-on/personal projects (IoT, electronics, wiring, automation, etc.)
- Practical low-voltage wiring skills and comfort with terminal blocks, crimping/ferrules, and cable glands
- Working knowledge of 4–20 mA, Modbus, pulse, and general industrial protocols
- Moderate-to-high networking literacy: MAC addresses, IP, cellular SIM, and general router configuration
- Comfort using modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, Codex) in daily work
- An interest in manufacturing, industrial sustainability, resource efficiency, and helping facilities reduce energy, water, waste, and operating costs through practical technology solutions and data-driven decision making.
- A valid full Ontario G driver's licence, a clean driver's abstract, and access to a reliable personal vehicle
- Legally eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen) and fluent in English
- Willingness to undergo a criminal record check
- Ability to perform physical site work in industrial settings (meat plants, breweries, food & beverage facilities, etc.), including lifting ~50 lbs and working at heights (ladders, silos, mezzanines)
- Based within approximately one hour of Guelph (Guelph–Kitchener/Waterloo–Mississauga corridor)
- Willingness to travel occasionally for overnight trips (1–2 weeks at a time, a few times per year, including possible Atlantic Canada)
Nice to Have (We Can Train)
- Tickets/certifications: WHMIS 2015, Working at Heights, Lockout/Tagout, Standard First Aid/CPR-C, Forklift/Elevated Work Platform, Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- Experience with LoRaWAN, Node-RED, and sourcing components (e.g., DigiKey)
- Software/coding ability and experience with IoT platforms and gateways
Logistics
- Hybrid: no daily central office — most days in the field or our Guelph shop, with work-from-home flexibility
- Vehicle: your own reliable vehicle is required; you'll also drive a company vehicle at times. Work travel (mileage in your own vehicle plus travel expenses) is reimbursed. Home-to-Guelph commuting is not.
- Tools: we supply the tools and equipment; you're welcome to bring your own
Compensation & Growth
- $50,000–70,000/year, commensurate with experience
- Optional performance bonus
- No additional benefits at this time, though we intend to add them as the company grows
- Genuine room to grow with a young, profitable, and expanding company - toward senior/lead roles or lateral moves
How to Apply
Please submit:
- Your resume
- A cover letter including the following:
1. Tell us about a hands-on project(s) you built or wired yourself (IoT, electronics, automation, sensors, etc.) - what it was, what hardware/tools you used, and what you'd do differently next time.
2. Describe your experience integrating, wiring, or maintaining industrial sensors or instrumentation. Which protocols, devices, or platforms have you worked with (e.g., 4–20 mA, Modbus, LoRaWAN, gateways/routers)?
3. How do you currently use AI tools in your technical work or learning? Give a specific example of something you've done with them beyond basic chat.
References will be requested after the interview stage.
