Step Into the Seat Behind the Camera
Most content roles hand you a task list and tell you to execute. This one is different.
You'll work directly alongside Ben Shelley - entrepreneur, coach, and founder of The Contractor Success Method, Paradisaic Building Group, and Co-Founder of Fast Lane Plumbing - to build a content engine that turns his ideas, frameworks, and field experience into content that actually moves people.
This is a rare opportunity to get inside the mind of someone who has built multiple seven-figure businesses and is now building a brand around helping other contractors do the same. You won't just be editing clips. You'll be capturing a story that matters - and learning how to tell it.
If you're the kind of person who notices good hooks, can hold a camera steady on a job site, and gets obsessive about why one video performs and another doesn't - keep reading.
Who You'll Be Working With
Ben Shelley is a contractor-turned-coach based in Durham Region. He runs three businesses - a coaching program, a high-end renovation company, and a residential plumbing company - and is actively building his personal brand to help other trades entrepreneurs escape the operator trap and build businesses that work without them.
The content spans job sites, coaching sessions, seminars, and everyday business life. It's raw, real, and grounded in hard-won experience. Your job is to make sure the world sees it.
The Role
You'll own the full content life-cycle across Ben's personal brand and both businesses - from planning through to publishing. You'll be on-site, in the shop, at seminars, and wherever the story is happening.
This is not a remote editing job. You'll be side by side with Ben 1-2 days per week and working independently the rest of the time to produce and ship content on schedule.
What You'll Do
- Plan and manage the content calendar - research hooks, write outlines, stay ahead of the schedule
- Film and direct - capture talking-head content, B-roll, job sites, office moments, seminars, and events
- Edit long-form video and short-form clips (Reels, Shorts, TikTok, YourTube) with strong pacing and storytelling instincts
- Design thumbnails, write titles and descriptions that earn the click
- Post natively to all platforms - you own the publish button
- Embed CTAs with UTM tracking links on all content
- Own basic analytics and produce a weekly performance report
- Manage contractors as the operation scales (thumbnail artist, captioner, etc.)
- Capture Ben's frameworks, quotes, and metaphors into reusable content assets
What Makes You the Right Person
You don't need ten years of experience. You need the right instincts, a strong work ethic, and the hunger to own something real.
You're a Fit If You
- Have a portfolio - long-form and short-form content you fully produced and are proud of
- Understand YouTube - hooks, thumbnails, retention, and why things get watched (or don't)
- Can hold a camera and direct a shot, not just sit behind a desk and edit
- Are comfortable on job sites, in offices, and anywhere else the story takes you
- Know your way around Instagram, editing tools and can move fast
- Have a sharp eye for pacing, audio, and brand feel - you notice the details that others miss
- Are local to Durham Region - this role requires you to be in-person consistently, and driving should never feel like a burden
- Communicate clearly, deliver on time, and flag issues before they become problems
Bonus Points
- Experience with After Effects, Claude, or audio post-production
- Comfort with drones or gimbals
- Background in trades, construction, or entrepreneurial content
- You've already grown something - a channel, a page, anything - that proves you understand what engagement looks like
What Success Looks Like
- Content ships on schedule - consistently, every week
- Daily Reels, IG Stories and 1 carousel per week
- Ben shows up as the talent and spends zero time on production logistics
- Follower growth is tracked, reported, and trending in the right direction
- The content feels authentic to who Ben is - not polished and fake, but real and credible
- You're proactive - you bring ideas, flag issues early, and think like an owner
Compensation & Details
- $22-25/hr to start (hourly, part-time) Intent is to turn into full time
- Performance bonuses of 10–20% tied to follower growth milestones. Bonuses kick in at defined monthly follower growth targets we set together at 30 days
- Hybrid schedule - 15-20 hrs per week
- Travel covered when required (events, seminars, shoots outside the region)
