The Opportunity:
This role is responsible for providing a clean, safe, secure, and efficiently operating environment for users of recreation facilities, with a strong focus on delivering excellent customer service. The Facility Operations Assistant completes assigned tasks and supervises users within the assigned facilities.
Top Key Responsibilities:
Facility Operation & Maintenance – Maintain recreation facilities and surrounding areas to high cleanliness and operational standards. Inspect facilities before and after use, identifying damage or maintenance issues and reporting them appropriately. Operate powered cleaning and floor maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Complete daily activity reports, operating logs, and maintain facility records.
Communication & Customer Service – Monitor facility schedules and usage, documenting changes as required. Communicate professionally and respectfully with facility users to support their needs and resolve issues.
Risk Management, Safety & Security – Monitor activities to ensure the safety and security of patrons, staff, and facilities. Address inappropriate patron behaviour and escalate major security concerns to supervisors. Participate in emergency responses, incident reporting, and facility safety programs
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
Grade 10
Six months related experience, preferably in a recreation environment.
Certification in Intermediate First aid.
Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (completed by The City upon employment).
Able to work weekends, weekdays, evenings and shift work hours.
Experience and knowledge of the requirements of various sporting and other activities performed in each facility.
Communicates respectfully and effectively, both orally and in writing in the English language with other City staff, facility users, and general public; responding courteously to complaints and to inappropriate behaviour.
Able to deal with people in a firm, assertive manner, and to act with sound judgment under pressure.
Able to work with considerable independence in a team environment.
Able to manage multiple task demands, using time management and sound decision-making and judgment to prioritize and complete requirements.
Able to exert moderate physical effort on occasion and works in all types of environments, including but not limited to, closed spaces, heights, cold, hot, chemical areas and noisy conditions.
Able to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

Hours of Work:
Hours of work as scheduled with no minimum guarantee. Shifts scheduled for days, evenings, weekends and shift work to meet the needs of the facility.
