Reports To: Operations Manager
Compensation: $70,000 - $85,000 + Benefits
Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for purchasing the materials, supplies and services required to support manufacturing operations. Working closely with Production, Customer Service, Quality and Accounting, the Buyer ensures materials are available when needed, inventory levels are maintained appropriately, supplier relationships are managed effectively, and purchasing information is accurate and up to date.
This position is best suited to someone with purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment who is organized, practical and able to manage multiple priorities.
Responsibilities
Purchasing & Supplier Management
- Purchase raw materials, components, supplies and services required to support production and company operations.
- Create, maintain and follow up on purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules and purchasing terms with suppliers.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships and investigate alternative sourcing opportunities when required.
Inventory & Production Support
- Monitor inventory levels and purchase materials as required to support production requirements.
- Work closely with Production to address material shortages, delivery concerns and changing production needs.
- Participate in inventory counts and inventory accuracy initiatives as required.
Customer Service, Quality & Accounting Support
- Communicate material availability, supplier delays and delivery concerns to Customer Service and other affected departments.
- Work with Quality and suppliers to resolve incoming material issues, supplier claims and NCRs.
- Work with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies, pricing issues, credits and supplier account concerns.
Administration
- Maintain purchasing records, supplier information and related reports.
- Follow company policies, procedures and quality requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and material requirements.
- Experience using ERP or inventory management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience in a custom manufacturing environment.
- Experience with supplier quality issues and corrective actions.
- Experience using Global Shop or similar ERP systems.
- Supply Chain Canada certification or related education.
