Field Service Technician
Telecom Options Inc. — Winnipeg, Manitoba Full-Time (Part-Time Considered) | Hourly | $20–$27/hr + mileage (based on experience)
About Us
Telecom Options Inc. has been serving Manitoba businesses since 1997, expanding into full-spectrum IT services in 2015. We're a full-service B2B Managed Service Provider supporting small and medium-sized businesses across managed IT services, Microsoft 365, VoIP, alarm systems and CCTV camera systems, AV integration, internet and telephony circuits, and hardware solutions. Our small, close-knit team values hands-on problem solving, accountability, and doing the job right the first time.
The Role
We're looking for a Field Service IT, Telecom & Cabling Support Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that starts with structured cabling, circuit work, and traditional telephony installation/support, with growth into broader IT support as your skills develop. No two days look the same — one day you might be running cable in a server closet, the next you're troubleshooting a phone system or supporting a client's network.
We're training-focused: you'll work alongside experienced technicians while we determine the right fit for you and the team, and you'll be mentored by whichever team member has the expertise for the task at hand. Experience is an asset, but we're prepared to train the right candidate from the ground up.
What You'll Do
- Install, terminate, and troubleshoot structured cabling (copper and fiber)
- Support and install traditional telephony and VoIP systems
- Assist with internet circuit installations and cutovers
- Provide on-site IT support for client workstations, networks, and peripherals
- Support alarm, CCTV, and AV system installations as your skills grow
- Represent Telecom Options professionally at client sites, including schools and community organizations
- Travel occasionally to client sites outside Winnipeg, including multi-day and fly-in trips
What You Bring
- A valid driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed), and a vehicle capable of transporting a ladder (roof rack or equivalent)
- Physical readiness for the work — comfort at heights on ladders and scissor lifts (paid training provided), lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasionally working outdoors in variable conditions; CSA-approved safety boots and a hard hat required (gloves, safety glasses, a hi-vis vest, and a safety harness provided by the company)
- Willingness to complete a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (paid for by the company) — required given our school-sector clientele; any offer of employment is conditional on satisfactory results
- Trustworthy and comfortable working independently at client sites with minimal supervision — including access to sensitive systems like client networks, security systems, and building keys — plus clear communication with non-technical people and a level head when something's broken
- Willingness to travel occasionally beyond Winnipeg
- A strong work ethic, reliability, comfort with variety and shifting priorities, and a genuine interest and aptitude for learning technology
- Prior experience in cabling, telephony, IT support, CCTV or a related trade is an asset but not required
- Written and spoken proficiency in English
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wage, $20–$27/hr based on experience
- Mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle
- Hotel and meal allowance for overnight or fly-in travel
- Partial cell phone bill reimbursement
- Tools provided where/when needed — bring your own if you've got them, and we'll replace anything that breaks on the job
- Company-provided laptop
- Paid lift safety certification training
- Paid product and certification training through our supplier and vendor programs (Cisco, Microsoft, and many more)
- Benefits package after probationary period
- Vacation pay that increases with tenure
- Hands-on mentorship and a clear growth path — from field cabling and telephony work into broader IT support and specialization as your skills develop
