Cornell Park Therapy is a dynamic and compassionate paediatric therapy clinic located in the heart of Markham, Ontario. Our collaborative team is passionate about helping children reach their full potential, and we are currently seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist with strong experience in supporting children on the autism spectrum, primarily in sensory processing and modulation, emotional and self-regulation, fine and gross motor skill development, activities of daily living, etc.
Position Overview:
This position is ideal for an experienced occupational therapist seeking contract opportunities to create extra income at an advantageous rate within flexible hours. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with children on the autism spectrum, with specific expertise in working with sensory processing disorder(s), developing self-regulation strategies, enhancing fine motor skills, etc. You will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, providing direct therapy, and collaborating with families and other professionals to support each child's unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for children on the autism spectrum, focusing on sensory processing, self-regulation abilities, fine motor skills (including handwriting, pre-printing skills, dexterity, tool use), gross motor skills (including balance, coordination, strength and motor planning), visual-motor integration, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Develop creative and effective individualized intervention plans with measurable goals in collaboration with the child, family, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions and strategies to improve self-regulation (e.g., emotional regulation, sensory modulation, attention, coping skills) and fine motor skills.
- Actively engage in client/family coaching.
- Provide direct one-on-one and at least one small group program.
- Educate and empower families and caregivers by providing home programming, resources, and strategies to support the child's development and generalization of skills.
- Collaborate closely with other professionals, including Speech-Language Pathologists, Registered Behaviour Analysts, Psychologists, and educators.
- Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely clinical documentation, including assessment reports, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in accordance with COTO guidelines and clinic policies.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences and clinic-based professional development opportunities.
- Stay current with best practices and research in paediatric occupational therapy, autism spectrum disorder, self-regulation, and fine and gross motor skill development, sensory modulation, attention and coping skills.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution.
- Current registration and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
- Minimum of 3-4 years of demonstrated experience working as an Occupational Therapist with children on the autism spectrum.
- Proven expertise and passion for developing self-regulation strategies, sensory processing and fine and gross motor skills in paediatric populations.
- Strong understanding of sensory processing differences and their impact on function.
- Excellent assessment, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build strong rapport with children and their families.
- Exceptional communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in using therapy equipment and resources relevant to fine motor and sensory-based interventions.
- Proof of current professional liability insurance.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check.
