THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Student Support Services team for a temporary full-time opportunity in the capacity of Child Youth Counsellor.
Location: Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute
Note: School location/geographical area cannot be guaranteed in perpetuity and are subject to change based on student and system needs.
FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE; 35 hours per week
Salary Range: $57,801 - $78,770 per year (based on 1.0 FTE full-time annual salary), plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Start Date: To commence September 2, 2026
End Date: Unknown end date

Reporting to the school Principal, the responsibilities of the Child Youth Counsellor are as follows:
Responsibilities:

To address the emotional barriers to student success
-
Development of preventive social/behavioural programming
-
Direct service to students relative to social, emotional or behavioural issues (i.e. conflict resolution, anger management, appropriate learning behaviours, peer interaction)

Provide support to students and parents around a variety of social issues, including effective parenting, dealing with divorce and dealing with bereavement
-
Acts as a liaison between school and parents, school and community agencies

Assist with development of action plans and IEP'S for students around social, emotional and behavioural issues

Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:

Child and Youth Worker Diploma or Degree and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board

Demonstrated experience supporting students with behaviour and mental health needs

Experience working in the school system, consultation experience, and knowledge of collaborative proactive solutions and Zones of Regulation

Full membership as a Professional certified in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care

Experience with individual and group counselling, behavioural management programming
