Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Work-Integrated Learning Specialist for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Office of Work-Integrated Learning.

The Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Specialist supports work integrated learning (WIL) and other experiential learning (EL) experiences to help MacEwan students gain hands-on experience in their chosen fields while applying classroom knowledge in real-world settings. You will work with faculty to identify the goals of incorporating WIL into their course and learning objectives that are conducive to WIL experiences.

Key responsibilities include:

Partnerships

In the context of Work-Integrated learning and experiential learning, acting as a point-of-contact, support or initiator for collaborative efforts involving faculty, student(s), alumni, the academic program partner, student organizations, staff, and other interested parties;
Serving all students by building links with faculty, staff, business/industry representatives, post-secondary educational personnel, alumni, and civic and community organizations;

Advising and Supporting the Development of and Coordinating Work-Integrated and Experiential Learning Experiences

Advising faculty and staff with credit-bearing experiential learning programs regarding policy/regulations/standards, collaborating with chairs, deans, faculty, and staff when negotiating agreements, developing resources, and promoting best practices;
Supporting logistics of putting experiential learning in place, suggesting best practice design of experiential learning components, and coaching on the use of MacEwan Life and other WIL management platforms;
Supporting and participatingin research connected to experiential learning
Supporting curriculum development in all areas of credit-bearing work-integrated and experiential learning;
Working in partnership with faculty and the Centre for Teaching and Learning to ensure curricular objectives are met through the WIL experience;
Supporting the development of experiential learning, such as mentoring and externships or internships, as well as initiating connections to existing programs and opportunities (including distance programs)

Training, Collaboration and Teamwork

Creating and updating training materials as directed by the unit manager for volunteers, contract employees, administrative staff and student casual workers;

Participating in communication and marketing initiatives and projects to promote the unit and services provided on campus and for employers, graduate or professional schools and community partners; and
Coordinating, mentoring, and training student staff and volunteers (students, staff, faculty, alumni, employers, etc.) as required.

Knowledge in trends, theories, principles, and best practices in experiential learning and adult learning;
Knowledge and awareness of current labour market trends and workforce needs;
Thorough knowledge of university policies and procedures, including those relating to student conduct, work integrated learning, and academic integrity, with the ability to explain and interpret policy;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), SharePoint, Google Docs; and
A willingness and ability to learn technology platforms and embrace new technology.

Qualifications

A minimum of a degree in education, career development, business administration, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of experience coordinating work-integrated learning, experiential learning, co-op programs, and/or career development programming within a post-secondary environment, or other relevant experience.
Experience working with industry partners and employers.
Experience with Symplicity (or similar platforms), social media, Google, and other WIL and career management platforms.
Training in project management is a strong asset.
Experience with PeopleSoft an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
