VDM Trucking Service Ltd. is a privately owned and operated transportation company with over 40 years of experience in the industry. We operate a large fleet of trucks, trailers and heavy equipment supporting highway, heavy-haul, oilfield and specialized transportation across Western Canada and North America.
We are looking for an experienced Shop Foreman / Fleet & Asset Manager to take a leadership role in the management of our shop, maintenance operations and company fleet.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone with a strong heavy-duty mechanical background who understands what it takes to keep trucks and equipment safe, reliable and working.
The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day shop operations, coordinate mechanics and repairs, manage preventative maintenance, monitor equipment condition and downtime, and work closely with Operations and Management to ensure VDM's fleet is being properly maintained and utilized.

You should be comfortable walking into the shop, talking to mechanics, looking at equipment, reviewing a repair, dealing with vendors and making decisions.
This role requires someone who can balance the hands-on side of shop operations with the bigger picture of managing a large and valuable fleet.

Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the shop
- Coordinate and prioritize maintenance and repair work
- Assign work to mechanics and monitor progress
- Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed
- Review and approve repair requirements and estimates
- Troubleshoot recurring equipment and mechanical issues
- Monitor shop workflow, productivity and equipment downtime
- Ensure repairs are completed properly and equipment is ready for service
- Work closely with Operations and Dispatch to prioritize equipment needs
- Coordinate outside repairs and vendors when required
Fleet & Asset Management
- Maintain oversight of VDM's trucks and heavy equipment
- Identify equipment requiring major repairs or replacement
- Assist Management with repair-versus-replace decisions
- Maintain accurate asset and maintenance records
Leadership & Safety
- Provide direction and leadership to shop employees
- Promote a strong safety culture within the shop
- Ensure employees follow company safety procedures and policies
- Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements
- Work with Management to address performance, training and staffing requirements
- Lead by example and maintain a professional and respectful shop environment
Qualifications & Experience
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification is strongly preferred
- Previous experience as a Shop Foreman, Lead Hand, Fleet Manager or Maintenance Supervisor
- Strong knowledge of heavy trucks, trailers and oilfield equipment
- Experience in the trucking, oilfield or heavy-haul industry is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and fleet maintenance
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and make sound repair recommendations
- Experience supervising or directing mechanics
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple repairs and competing operational demands
- Comfortable working with maintenance records, costs and equipment reports
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Valid driver's licence
