We’re looking for a Sales Trainee to join our Vernon office located in Vernon, British Columbia for a 12-month term. Tolko’s Sales Development Program is a structured multi-year pathway designed to build a strong foundation of sales skills and business acumen. Participants gain hands-on experience across key areas, develop customer relationship skills, and build the capabilities needed for growth within Tolko.
Our head office houses Tolko’s corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement, and Human Resources.
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in a related field.
- Previous customer service or sales experience preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation with a passion for building relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer-based analytical skills.
- Must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and creativity.
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Knowledge of the forestry industry is considered an asset.

In this role, you will:
- Maximize net return to the Business Units through effective product planning, sales strategies, and monitoring of market conditions and competitor actions.
- Work with members of the Sales Team and the Sales Coordinators to develop weekly and periodic sales lists for our external customers.
- Ensure the Business Units are supplied with orders that match mill production and the supply of transportation equipment.
- Manage finished inventory levels to target levels, considering inventory costs, market conditions, and product deterioration.
- Provide regular information to internal customers regarding market trends and external customer feedback.
- Negotiate fair settlements of customer claims on behalf of the business units.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial budgets, business plans, and strategic plans.
- Maintain a customer base (North America) that matches mill production capabilities.
- Professionally represent Tolko Marketing and Sales to the public.
