Brief Job Description
The HACCP Coordinator is accountable for developing, implementing, updating, and maintaining the HACCP Program and Preventive Control Programs in accordance with regulatory requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians Act and CFIA regulations. This role proactively trains, implements, and enforces the fundamentals of GMP and Audit Programs, and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure the accuracy of food safety programs and promote a culture of quality throughout the facility. The position reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.
Please note this facility operates as both an abattoir and a processing facility.
Responsibilities:
Food Safety & Quality
- Coordinate and participate in the development of HACCP Plans and Preventive Control Programs; lead program implementation
- Update and maintain HACCP and Preventive Control Programs and all related policies and procedures
- Establish management and control systems to maintain compliance with quality systems and regulatory requirements (Safe Food for Canadians Act, CFIA)
- Support annual assessment and reassessment of Preventive Control and HACCP Programs
- Conduct risk assessments of vendors and HACCP system programs
- Update SOPs and forms as required following HACCP reassessment or program changes
- Conduct internal audits and support external audits and inspections including BRC, customer audits, and CFIA
- Verify HACCP and Preventive Control Program documents and procedures, including onsite verifications
- Identify and resolve HACCP and Preventive Control non-conformances in a timely manner
- Provide recommendations for quality program improvement, corrective actions, and preventive measures
- Support investigation and resolution of customer complaints
- Support facility in conducting traceability exercises
- Organize and deliver training in HACCP, GMP, food safety, and quality policies and procedures
- Maintain working knowledge of SOPs and CFIA regulations
- Collaborate with Maintenance and other departments; provide QA department backup as directed by the QA Manager
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Certifications: HACCP certification required; GFSI certification preferred
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field
- Experience:
- 1–3 years for Coordinator/Specialist roles OR 5 years as a QA technician in a meat processing industry.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and audit processes
- Familiarity with BRC Global Standards, CFIA regulations, and the Safe Food for Canadian Act.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to write clear policies and procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced production environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail
- Effective collaborator who can also work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both refrigerated and warm production environments
- Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
- Primarily Monday to Friday schedule with occasional weekend requirements as operations demand

Pay: $54,000.00-$62,000.00 per year
