Position Summary
The Youth in Transition Housing Worker plays a critical role in delivering trauma-informed, youth-led, and strengths-based support to individuals aged 16–29 residing in transitional housing.
This position is an 18-month maternity leave contract, open to applicants of all genders.
In addition to core housing support services, this role is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Safe Trails program, a trauma-informed, nature-based initiative supporting rural youth impacted by violence. The program includes outdoor adventure activities, skill-building workshops, and community-based programming designed to foster resilience, emotional healing, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
Youth in Transition Housing Program
· Deliver trauma-informed, youth-led, and strengths-based outreach and counselling support.
· Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized housing stability and support plans.
· Provide wraparound supports to youth impacted by violence, exploitation, trafficking, and/or system involvement.
· Support youth in accessing housing, education, employment, health, and community services.
· Facilitate life skills development, independence, and self-advocacy.
· Maintain accurate, confidential documentation.
· Collaborate with community partners to ensure coordinated care and service delivery.
Safe Trails Program Coordination & Implementation
· Lead the coordination, implementation, and delivery of the Safe Trails program.
· Plan and facilitate outdoor programming, including seasonal camps, weekly meetups, and workshops.
· Coordinate logistics such as transportation, scheduling, equipment, and safety planning.
· Ensure programming is trauma-informed, safety-focused, and youth-centered.
· Engage youth participants and foster connection, resilience, and confidence.
· Collaborate with community partners, volunteers, and service providers.
· Support program evaluation, including tracking participation, outcomes, and feedback.
Qualifications
· Diploma or degree in Social Services, Child and Youth Work, Social Work, or related field.
· 2–5 years’ experience working with youth in housing, outreach, or support roles.
· Experience supporting youth impacted by violence or systemic involvement.
· Experience facilitating or coordinating group or outdoor programming (an asset).
· Knowledge of trauma-informed care, mental health, and addictions.
· Strong understanding of youth homelessness and service systems.
· Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and gender-inclusive practice.
· Valid First Aid/CPR certification, Class G driver’s license, and a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift, carry, and transport up to 25–40 lbs on a regular basis (e.g., program supplies, food, camping equipment).
· Ability to participate in physically active outdoor programming, including walking on uneven terrain, hiking, bending, and standing for extended periods.
· Capacity to work in a variety of weather conditions during outdoor program delivery.
· Ability to safely support youth in community and outdoor environments, including loading/unloading equipment and setting up program spaces.
Additional Information
· This is a temporary maternity leave coverage position beginning in July.
· The role includes a combination of office-based, community-based, and outdoor work.
· Flexibility is required, including evenings and occasional weekends, to meet program needs.
· The position is open to applicants of all genders and encourages applicants with diverse lived experience.
· Training in outdoor safety, risk management, and trauma-informed practice will be supported.
Pay: $31.42 per hour
