Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Collections and Resources, the Student Page role is responsible for shelving library materials, answering basic directional questions from members, and performing clerical and housekeeping tasks. Scheduling of this role will be mainly weekends and evenings, day shift schedules will accommodate school schedules. The successful applicant is expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Salary Range: $17.60 per hour
Work Location: Newcastle/Orono,
Status: Non-Affiliated, Part-Time
Schedule: Average of 24 hours bi-weekly, including evenings and weekends
Physical demands: Shelving, bending, stooping, stretching, standing, lifting, pushing/pulling book trucks and boxes of material.
Position Responsibilities:
- Shelve books and other library materials as they are returned to the library, according to appropriate classification systems.
- Reads shelves to ensure books and other items are in the correct order.
- Ensures shelves are tidy and materials are readily accessible.
- Tidies reading and study areas.
- Answers simple directional questions and directs members to appropriate staff.
- Assists with the emptying of the book drop.
- Works in compliance with safe work practices and procedures.
- Comply with all procedures and requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safety Policies, and other applicable legislation or regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 10 completion.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Ability to file both alphabetically and numerically.
- Ability to work with fine detail.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ability to lift and carry library materials as well as push and pull carts up to 40 lbs.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required prior to commencement of employment.
